@The Boss Lady if you do the webinar make sure LS show the RPM rate per mile on the load board. You also might want to know how you figure out your rate from that. LS takes 35% but the fuel surcharge is paid 100% to BCO.

So say a load pays $1.90 a mile and the current fuel surcharge is $0.25. $1.90-$0.25=$1.65 LS gets 35% and you get 65% of 1.65 So $1.65*.65=$1.07 then you add 100% of the fuel surcharge back $1.07+$0.25=$1.32 per mile to you truck

How about $1.60 -0.25=$1.35*.65=$0.87 plus fuel surcharge back at same rate of$0.25 is $1.12 per miles that pretty cheap. So $1.60 on LS load board is about the same as any carrier paying $0.90 plus fuel surcharge.

Guys that enjoy running solo loads of ordinary freight with an average length of haul 800-2,000 miles never really get it.

Well, I'm almost in. I just need to take my hazmat test and send in the fingerprint receipt. After, that's done, I have to get my truck inspected and do the drug test. Also, Mercer approved my application and the recruiter wants to know when I'm ready for orientation. *sigh* Now, I'm not sure if I should hold out and continue the process with Landstar or go over to Mercer. After reading so many threads about both companies, I'm not sure which is the best for me.

Yep. They would rather do what's easy and cheap than what's profitable.

Yes, the day that I did the webinar, the rates were good from what I could see. The person hosting moved around the board pretty quick so they didn't really give you time to actually "study" the board.

I also belong to a Facebook trucking group and a Landstar BCO posted screenshots of the board yesterday. One of the other members suggested that he delete the post before Landstar finds out and cancels his contract.

I'm surprised the rates look good. Hopefully they did not just show just a hot spot like southern California or Chicago. You can get a good rate out Chicago to Northeast but when you pay tolls and have to deadhead out the rate not so good.

It's like going to Laredo TX they pay good going into Laredo. What they don't tell you is they don't have any empty trailer for you to pick up. So the only option for a load is a preloaded trailer. Their are loads available even good paying that you need a empty trailer to drop to get the load. Even live loads are available if you only had a empty trailer. That's the catch going to Laredo. You will see loads available but you can't haul them because you won't have a trailer unless it live unload in Laredo. Plus you can't leave Laredo without a trailer.

Just be careful, but that fun part being your own boss. You get to pick were you go.
