Can't make 2500 a month? What kind of drugs are you on? That's only a little over $600 a week and you say that is not possible? Why are you being so negative in your response also? You want to sit there and discourage someone from doing a job that you are doing yourself. Everyone has horror stories about the trucking industry for one reason or another, but pushing your bitterness onto another person is just plain sad. In this person's situation yes a refresher course MAY be required, to make a blanket statement as to every employer requires a refresher course is asinine at best. Are you even a truck driver or have you watched smokey and the bandit or convoy too many times tripping on some bad weed?

Maybe you should have read my other post but while in training for 4 to 6 weeks depending on who hires him. He more then likely won't be making 600 plus take home a week!!

He is leaving a good job with good benefits and his family to bend over for the mega screwing. So you bet I'll tell him the truth. Once he is off the training truck and he has a company who knows how to dispatch. It shouldn't be a problem, but at the cost of decent benefits at your old company and being off 4 days a week and still being able to save money and pay for his house. To come out here and be home 3 days a month working 70 hours a week. In this no job security world of big belly big rigging.

You're right. If I had OPs gig 3-4 days off and I needed more money I'd just take on some work during my days off. Unlike OP I've never had a mind numbing factory job but I could imagine the drudgery. Tough call. I've always told myself that I have a duty to pursue happiness but I don't have children.

I tried factory work at 2 different places and didn't take but a week or so at each to realize it was going to lead to a long, slow, painful, early demise. Horrible way to make a living. Factory work will make a guy lose any self respect he may have. I guess if one can't get a cdl, then just have to deal with it.

Steve, if you didn't have the little kids I would say what are you waiting for. But your current job is paying the bills and your able to save money also. Remember Its Never to late to get into trucking there is no age limit. I have a 6 year old grandson whom I miss dearly and would love to spend more time with. Only you and your wife can make this decision. You being able to return to your factory job if trucking doesn't work for you is a distinct advantage.

Companies do get a tax credit for hiring people with no skills, who have been out of work, or are from targeted groups like veterans, disabled, youth, etc.

I would say this. Life is long (if you play your cards right) and you only get one chance to see your kids grow up and be around for them. You should definitely do it at some point a little later down the road when they don't need you around and are off living their own lives. You've got a little too much to lose it sounds like by upsetting the apple cart at this point. I'm sure you don't like your job and feel trapped by it...welcome to the club. Responsible adulthood is where most men's dreams go to die...for awhile anyway. You gotta make some hard choices sometimes and cant always have it all.

There you go. Those of us at megas who derived income, were taken care of. Werner took #### good care of me on a lot of stuff. And if someone was a runner, I'd suggest checking them out.
I did both otr and throwing freight with them.
Did real good. But I kept it going. Unless I was bedridden with illness
