I make 1200-1300 a week working for JB hunt in Dallas lol I did food service right after leaving the oilfield and made 1300-1400 a week but food service kicked my ### as I'm a little out shape after leaving the oilfield
. I'm currently team driving with the girlfriend making about 1200 a week but if I had my choice I would be going to a LTL company starting at 60k/year home everyday.
If you're only making 14-16/hr driving a semi truck then you have the wrong job...

Not really any such thing as seasonal work in the oil fields. Winter time is usually when you make the best money up in North Dakota anyway. The colder it gets the less people want to be there and the less competition for your job so the rates go up.

I would wait for the barrel to go up around 75 before even looking at companies! I worked in frac and was making around $95k. Sand haulers would say they made around 300 a day as company driver and 700 as owner. So there can be good money but just not right now

Schlumberger is having a big job fair here in oklahoma. It might be a good opportunity to your foot in the door in case oil really takes off. I'm doing food distribution right now and can't stand it

I ran in the Permian Basin (West Texas) back in the early 2000's. The money was good. It was nothing to rake in $3,200 but you had to run hard. I watched many seasoned OTR drivers quit and return to OTR because they just could not handle the desert heat, no restrooms, no restaurants, and at times, very little sleep. When Bush was in office, DOT let us run right through the scales, no problem. We ran 80 MPH everywhere we went. Car's would take the shoulder and let us roll right past. I guess it was kind of intimidating to watch an 18 wheeler with 50,000 pounds of sand grow in your rearview mirror. We eat well, fist sized shrimp, steaks so large they covered your plate, and we ran hard. Ft. Stockton was a metropolis, complete with roads, signs, and a security force that ran radar and handed out traffic tickets. A couple of those and you were barred. I remember the Warfield Truck Stop in Odessa, full of Peterbilts from Mahan trucking, each with their chicken lights on, it was a beautiful sight. Hobbs NM, Artesia NM, Brady, Seagraves, East Texas, SlumberJ, Key, Hallyburton, boy those were the days and I would go back in a heartbeat, if the money was right. Then suddenly-one day, it all just vanished. They capped the wells, abandoned the fields and we starved. It's true, from Boom to Bust and from Bust to Boom, that's how it works in the Oil Business.

I had a delivery to ND in 2011 and was offered a job on the spot. But when I was told it gets colder than it already was I said no thanks. But then I heard how all the wrk dried up. Which was crazy because I'm sure prices didn't drop on hotels and all. Man I've never seen price gouging that bad before.
So know I hear west tex was picking up. And a friend of mine called me and said he's abt to go there. And was going to work for xcaliber. I said I hope you enjoy living in a truck. Because I couldn't do it!
You can make 1k p/wk otr. If an oil field job ain't paying more than that, then why be there? -

Back in the days when I made 16 thousand a month just fueling equipment and not have to drive out on them crap roads. I always find it funny how over the road guys have a story to tell how they were offered a job here and there you weren't offered a job you applied to a job or inquired and they said sure we will hire you.
