Fed ex freight linehaul are as far as I know all home daily but FedEx freight doesn't usually hire for linehaul usually filled by city drivers.Central transport linehaul is usually home daily sure there are more especially regional LTL carriers in your area.OD,Estes.YRC.holland,ABF.all usually hire linehaul you will run on the extra board and most you could be out for the week

Could you explain the finer points of this "extra board"?

Also, didn't quite understand your point about Fedex freight. Are you saying that a newbie probably could work linehaul for them, and would be back home every night?

That's extremely specific and a little unrealistic for local work. There are jobs like that but the chance of getting one out of the gate is slim

Why? The majority of good paying local stuff is P&D and Foodservice, which pay very well and the day goes by quick.

After a year of local work you'll be in a position to make more money than you will be going OTR after the fact in most cases.

If you don't want to make 10 stops in the same city and want a easy day at your job it's called put your time in and get seniority. Almost every local driving job (LTL) you are going to start from the bottom and work your tail off. I don't mean to come off as an ahole but please be realistic.

Yes, but linehaul usually requires you know the moment an old driver will retire or die. Look at Driver Temp Services they supply drivers to various trucking companies and you can experiment without becoming a job hopper. If you find a job you like you can try to get hired.

Local work usually pays by the hour like someone else already mentioned.

Pickup & Delivery sometimes called City Driver. Do you really want to be in city traffic all day for your first job? Car drivers have zero regard for their own lives, let alone your driving record.

    LoneCowboy and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this.

Extra board is like on standby. You aren't assigned anything permanent, but you MIGHT be called in to cover another driver that called in sick or an extra load that popped up.

Yeah, I'm currently refreshing and just into this job 2 months. I have to put in more time to improve my work history and I'm not in a hurry, just learning about options I might consider in the future.

Is a regional dedicated account a more realistic next step? It would be nice to have more consistency in my job instead of random customers.
