Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

this is trouble free, lubrication is automatic, easier to hook - point drawbar, faster, pintle hook is not legal here for reason

 

It's air powered isn't it? Sure did look like air was driving that pin the the video. That automatically disqualifies it as being trouble free.


Edit to add. And how exactly is it faster? It's going to take basically the same time. Maybe put in the bush and the back half was dropped in a hole. But on semi level ground in a paved parking lot? It won't be a noticeable difference of time.

 

not, manually, there is option to buy air cylinder, electronic from cab, hook placed on bushing for extra comfort, but simple basic version is best

well, our trailers have springs that keep drawbar in same height as hook, so it is matter of reversing and once you feel pin get in it is all done, you can attach cables and air and check if pin is in position, since there is that housing around hook, even if you did not point truck good to drawbar it will help you to attach trailer easier , it is on springs so it wont be damaged if you hit it too hard

most problematic thing about this is bushing on trailer eye here you wont pass technical inspection ( every 3 months) with any play , to prevent problems you need to employ good driver that wont pull retarder too hard at once




with ringfeder/rockinger/vbg/orlandi.............. it would take some 30seconds to attach hook, get out connect air/cables, and get to panel

Spyder,with the pintle hook you need it line up it 100% straight.(hook to ring)

The Ringfeder you can be off by as much as the "mouth" is wide.

With "mouth" i mean the big piece with "ringfeder" stamped on it.
When the coupling is open,the mouth is fixed.
Coupling closed.............mouth has free movement.

 

Never mind always having a correct length 4x4 to make it work. I pull doubles daily , often many sets a day . Would hate that setup.

 

dont have, you will find lot of them on yt ringfeder/rockinger + anhanger/deichselanhanger you will probably find some

this part is sometimes questionable, when it get into years it tend to break , if used too hard, but anyway even if it dont work and it moves it is still easier to attach it than without

 

i can still remember my first trailer hooking,
i was 7year old and my father told me to go with him to truck, when we get there he told me to get in cab start engine and build up air......when it get to 10bar he explained to me that he would teach me how to attach trailer i was scared/excited and was shaking at same time....as a kid i was hardly able to reach to pedals, steering wheel and mirror at same time+i was kid without feeling......... and that went bed, i miss whole hook and hit air connector on left side......during next 3years i was scary every time i had to do that

 

Ya i understand the physics of it. And while i don't pull doubles every day, i have pulled them often enough to know how long a halfass competent driver takes to hook them up. And is only a matter of a couple minutes. Again, in an operation where you are dropping and hooking in the bush on horriblly unlevel terrain, i can see the benefit. But for the majority of us, it's just replacing a simple trouble free latch that will last longer than the truck and trailer with a system that will need future maintenance. Even if it was spring operated like a fifth wheel, it will require maintenance and replacing parts. A pintle hook and ring is still in good shape when the truck is sent to the salvage yard.
