Isnt there some sort of stopper built into the rails to prevent the pins from goingto far????
He wouldn't be able to go forward or backwards to get the pins back in the rail.
I don't pull vans so just asking a question.

Here is what I would do. If the shop you will take it to, is in the same yard you are in, I'd drag it to the shop.
If I had to go out onto a public street with it, to get to the shop, then I might play with it a bit, and see if anything I do, could get it back where it belongs. And If I could get it back where it belongs, I'd take it to the shop, for a good check over.
If I couldn't get it to where I felt it safe on the road, to get to the shop, I flatly would say "I didn't screw it up! It just isn't my problem."
I'm all for helping people out. I'm also all for having people take responsibility for their own screw ups. (Or ATTABOYS for that matter.) -
Best thing to do is jack the trailer up,retract pin then set it down. You can try pulling on the trailer with someone pulling the lever, but I wouldn't.
Oxbow and pigeon river trucking Thank this. -
When it hits that backstop with the pins released, the only thing holding the chassis to the rails are those cheesy ### little metal clips. When the front of the chassis starts to roll under and pushes past the clips and the pin release handle comes out of the notch and lets the pins back out, it's a recipe for oh ####...
The only thing holding that chassis to the trailer rails are the pins. The clips are just a guide more or less. -

You were given your orders from a higher up. Do it. The train wreck is off of you and your wanting to take over the controls of this fiasco. Don't be a d*****s. If you continue down this path... Your next post will be....
I got fired for no reason what so ever, What do I do now?dptrucker Thanks this. -
However, UPDATE: I took the above advice & that made perfect sense to try. So, I called the guy out that did this with a fork lift, had him get under the front of the trailer, lift it up which lifted the rail off the pins, I pulled the lever, the pins retracted, he let the trailer down & all is good. less than a minute & we had it done.
I will note & admit that the rail didn't set completely back down to match the pins, so I hooked the truck to it, backed up & slid the axles forward all the way & it set down on there perfect. So, In reality, less than 10 minutes total... easy, peasy.. quick & simple. Hats off to daf105paccar & thanks to all who gave relevant replies & tried to help.Socal Xpress, Bean Jr., misterG and 4 others Thank this. -
For future reference. this forum has an upload file feature at the bottom of the box you use to type in.

I had this happen to me one time when I was picking up a dropped trailer. The landing gear were low and the pins were on the rails. When I got under it, I supplied air to the bags and as it started to raise up, I was able to pull the handle and they dropped back down on the rails and got them locked in. I think it was like that because the spotter slid the tandems and dropped the legs low. This was an empty trailer though.
