I'm sure that's nice and top heavy.

Apparently it was only 9500 lbs. The electric generator was pretty low in the housing too. Probably still pretty heavy on top though.

I've been told that some states treat that as a single tie down. I can't confirm however, that it's not a trucker tale, or someone confusing that sort of tie down with a chain going from the equipment to the truck, through the truck (not a chain slot) and back to the equipment. That would not count as separate tie downs I would think.

See that slack in the middle? That means that the securement points are independent of each other. If one point failed, the other would be COMPLETELY uneffected.

Tools and other things going to Marissa, IL. Don't think there's 15,000lbs in all of it together. This is load 5 of 7.

I agree 100℅. If you cut that slack part in half no cop would ever argue the point...

And again, what I heard may just be trucker tales or the result of one stupid and ignorant DOT cop. But when I was driving a tow truck I was taught that that was not to be considered two separate tie downs.

I've heard the same thing. Fearmongers tales. Have yet to met that ignorant of a DOT cop.

I did this one a couple weeks ago:

And I just read the regs yesterday regarding securing cars/equipment. Closed loops made with a single chain count as two direct tiedowns.

Oh yes, and I can't remember who I was talking to about this, @x1Heavy or @cnsper maybe? But I took a picture to prove it:

Canada does not allow stacked vehicles to be transported.

I have. That is to say, I've met a CHP officer who was either that ignorant or that corrupt. I used to have an inspection report listing violations for the most absurd things imaginable.... That was before I knew anything about the CSA program, and no tickets were written, but a number of companies were taken out of the rotation based on failed inspections for stuff far more absurd than that.

    Crusader66 and Oxbow Thank this.
