Absolutely. I had to use a torque multiplier and 3 broken sockets later was able to get my starter bolts out. Starter had 1 million 70,000 on it.

    Heavyd and SAR Thank this.

Yeah well normally id agree with that, its on a t600 with a c15. The ecm sets right above the starter. Also, theres a massive wiring harness at the starter on my truck. Plus the top bolt , theres really no way to get to it with a torch.

Tell me about it same truck here fun, fun. My 42MT only has 2 bolts holding it in and been that way for years. One of the bolts is broken off in the housing and so extracting it will have to wait until clutch time who knows when.

I feel ya. On my detroit the back bolt is a real pain. It sits between the starter and block. Fuel line above it and ecm below it. Only way to get to it is guiding a socket on 2 extensions from the front...which is right where the compressor and fuel pump sit. I've put 3 starters on this truck and every time im really tempted to leave that bolt out.

If you can get the wiring out of the way, that would be easy to burn out.

It's actually the outside bolt easiest one to get at. No wires, no nothing. Just blowtorch it out?

Hold a large nut with a wrench and use a mig gun to weld the nut to the broken bolt down through the center. When it's almost cool enough to touch. Press a candle against the housing and melt some wax onto the bolt. Then work the bolt back and forth with a wrench until it comes out.

Yep. But take the starter off. Don't want to risk getting it hot. I've cut exhaust manifold stuffs out which are a lot smaller than a starter bolt. If you do it right, you won't even have to rethread the bolt hole.

I've heard that works great, but i don't have a mig welder. Just a regular Lincoln stick welder.
