What is the hardest part part of over the road. Most people see semis just on the highway which looks simple but the is a lot more of any job that people don't see. What is your most difficult part of trucking?

That and the actual process of leaving the house to go out on a tour of duty. If you have a wife and kids you love, it can be quite difficult.

Backing into docks with trucks on either side, and tight right turns from one narrow street onto another narrow street, with vehicular obstacles ... toss up between those two for most new to trucking. Some figure it out. Some don't.

Not all truck driving jobs today require long periods away from home, except for maybe in the apprentice phase while you're with a trainer. Local and regional jobs get you home daily or weekly. Some OTR longhaul jobs will require 3+ week tours.

Read @UKwildcatfan 's threads....... we've covered it all there in the last 2 days, much of it tonight. Almost TMI...... but..... anyway, it's part of the being part of this life. Most of us have done OTR starting out, some of us have gotten great local/dedicated gigs, or OS/OD like Six and Chewy and JohnDeere. Look 'em up. You have a few years before you, nonetheless, of biting the OTR bullet.
    Best wishes.

For me when I first started it was getting lost missing my exits and turns was the hardest part of the job.Once I got the exp everyday was just another day and missing my exits and finding my way around wasn't so bad.

The most difficult part of truck is just listening to all the complaints.
Probably why I don't socialize at terminals or truck stops.
