Knowing that at any time I could be killed, especially by another in my industry because many of them can't drive worth anything.
This is a dangerous job, it isn't because of road conditions but other drivers.LandslideRich, KB3MMX and Boattlebot Thank this. -

For me it's mountains back in school back in the 80's Instructors teased me called me a big baby and stop whining, listen up this is how you run a mountain. Then put on all sorts of hills and mountains including some roads that really don't take big trucks in the woods but have steep hills for me. Notchchiff to the north and east of Baltimore comes to mind.
After a while I get bored not being on a mountain. Literally was not happy unless on one. Steeper the better. Ice? bring it. Snow? HA. Coffee and smokes let's go. I laughed at everything then. such hubris. Heavy loads? Sure. Break scales? Done that. But that does not make Virginia too happy with me because they really break with the gross weight unknown above 137500. I estimated by volume the load to around 155,000 but frankly it was a horrible day.
Anytime things get bad, truckers roll. Everyone else goes home. Also the other side is this. When WE decide to seek safe haven and wait out a vicious storm what in the world are you doing running around in your 4x4 stupid? Understand?
People across the board have different fears. My Spouse could not stand Nevada. 300 miles of empty headed NOTHING except acid water, stones and sand. She pulled up at Hawthrone crying due to the undiscovered flaw versus Nature out west of emptiness. I took over and get her to Reno before Donner. She perked up and was back to normal when we got out of there. That was her fear. It did not break her but came close. That was where I came in to help.
Ive had people sit on top of Cajon. They wont go down. You wonder in the world they get all the way out there? Well you stand on top of Cajon and look straight down 5 miles and you will understand why some do break and wont do it. So you bring em down and call their company and have em shipped by bus back home. No more mountains to worry about. Find something else to do with life.
That is my tidbit. Take it for what you will. We all are different. Something will come up in trucking, I bet my farm on that. How you deal with it matters. Continue to make decisions and work through it. Fear is nothing but a body's power against you. It's useful. But do not let it turn you into a panicked sobbing mass of lump doing nothing. You must fight. Or... die possible. Or someone else will. Who knows?WesternPlains, Crude Truckin' and Boattlebot Thank this. -
KB3MMX Thanks this.
