Rumors have been flying at the grocery stores I service about Kelloggs closing some distribution centers and laying off. All of the Keebler trucks I've seen in my delivery area have been pulled by Godfrey Transport tractors. Looks like there may be some truth to these rumors, Godspeed for those folks that are being affected.

Huh interesting. I know Nestle still does a lot of there own direct store distribution, however they have also made changes to who they service and who they don't.

Keebler driver told me the other day that they would be completely shut down in the Philly / SJ region by September- possibly as early as July.

Everyone is out. Drivers, salesman, warehouse. Everyone. No severance package as of now. He said the union is trying to negotiate one for them. That's rough

WOW...This brings back bad memories. I went through a similar situation over at IBC/Hostess Brands. My heart definately goes out to all of them Kellogg's employees. I definitely know what they're going through. All of us IBC employees had a difficult time when they closed down. And because of the mass volume of people that lost they're jobs, unemployment gave us a special grant for anybody who wanted to go back to school. Some of the drivers, sales rep, and baker's went right over to our competitors over at Bimbo Bakeries, while others got they're CDL and went into trucking. I even heard Hostess Brands just recently got bought out by another company again, SMH.

There's a Kellogs distribution center in Cranbury NJ that I use to see all the time. They had a small Private Fleet and did primarily deliveries in NYC. I haven't been around that area in quite some time, so I don't know if they still exist or not, but I'm wishing the best of luck to all them Kellogg's employees and their families. Sad news overall :(.

So apparently all their stuff is going to go on the grocery trucks, and all the grocery employees are going to stock their products..

Let's just say the managers aren't very happy

Kellogg's is being very misleading about this to the media. The true number of those being let go is somewhere around five to seven thousand. The 1,100 is just hourly union positions. The whole number of those affected is well into the double digits of total global workforce. The grocery chains will now carry a few of the biggest sellers in their distribution centers and the rest of the orders will be picked buy each individual store order just like they are now by Kellogg's wharehousemen but instead buy a third party company, often in the same location. Then the orders will be shipped to the retailers distribution centers for dispersement to the stores, instead of directely to the stores buy Kellogg"s truck drivers which is how it is now. Once in the stores it will be put out and reordered buy retail employees instead of Kellogg"s sales people and merchavdisers like it is now. This is devistating to thousands of us and our famelys, many of us have decades with them and are old, but not old enough too retire. Honstly this feels like a divorce or death. Being trown out like the trash and once again being told about the "hard decisions" managment had to make. Guess weare supposed to be sorry for them.

The rumors are true. Kelloggs is shutting down dsd operations nationwide. I'm a driver and they offered a $10,000 severance if I stay till July 29th. Over 4,000 people sales, merchandisers, management, and drivers out of a job. It's a depressing place to work now.

Sorry to hear what's going on over at Kellogg's. We went through a similar situation over at Hostess Brands. Around 19,000 people lost their jobs when they closed down. We got no severance pay, they just locked the gates after the Baker's Union went on strike. It was tough for all of us, especially the guys who've been there 20-30 + years. My advice, as someone who went through a similar situation, is to start researching which companies you're interested in NOW. I originally joined TTR because I was still researching on various different trucking companies I was interested in. This website has a wealth of knowledge, and and it can answer a lot of questions about what to persue next. I'm currently working over at the Postal Service and I can honestly say that I'm extremely happy at where I work now. It took a while for me to get over losing my job at IBC/Hostess Brands, but I have moved on, and SO WILL YOU.

I wish you the BEST OF LUCK.
