Update on my mother. She had a pretty rocky couple days, but think now we are on the better side of this particular mountain. We've decided to compare this journey to thru hiking on the Appalachian Trail. We've only just begun and are about a 1/4 of the way thru. It's going to be a long journey and extremely tough at times, but when we get to the completion, it'll be worth it all.
She's being transferred to a rehab facility later today. The one we requested actually had an open bed, so we are very fortunate. So many terrible stories floating around of elder abuse these days that I was very particular about where she would end up. Especially with me not being able to be there as much as I would like.
I've got to get my physical done before I can go back out, which should prove interesting since my diet hasn't been the greatest these past couple of weeks! At least there were a couple of down home cooking places within walking distance from the hospital and not fast food! I'll probably be out Monday. Even though moths fly out when I open my wallet, I want to get her settled, tend to household stuff, and see the routine of this place first.Lonesome, slick mick, Finfn1372 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's a raw deal about our fellow driver. Best wishes to him and his family.
I also got to drive a Freightliner for the first time yesterday. My Volvo was in the shop with no ETA, and Don said they really needed someone to run a Hill-Phoenix load out to Burlington, NC, because one of the local drivers had called in sick and they were short drivers. So they hooked me up with a Freightliner.
Definitely smaller inside than my Volvo. Fridge was a LOT smaller. Not that I was using the fridge, but it was a thing I noticed. Seemed to be a bit tighter on the steering column than my truck. I've gotten used to my truck, which is something of a loosey-goosey when it comes to keeping it going in a straight line. The Freightliner was more responsive.
There's some kind of switch under the gas pedal that I would occasionally click by accident when putting the hammer down, and sometimes it would drop a gear when I clicked it. And sometimes it wouldn't. So I'm not sure what that switch is for.
I actually had to call dispatch last night at 11:10pm to find out how to unhook a trailer from the Freightliner. Much more of a pain in the keister than my truck.
Definitely missed some of the gauges from my Volvo while I was driving.
Was an interesting experience. I wasn't quite sure if I was disliking certain things because they just weren't what I was used to, or if I would've disliked those things anyways. Anyhow, I am glad to be back in my truck. -

Not that any of you are from this area, but NEVER NEVER NEVER go anywhere near Maryview hospital. I'm not sure if all Bon Secours hospitals are like this. If it weren't for Dr. G, we wouldn't be here either. -
Such is the scourge of capitalist healthcare.RebelChick Thanks this. -
