You have two paths to choose from. Reactive or Proactive. You can choose to pretend a medical condition does not exist just by saying so and waste your time going through the application process only to have your chances of being hired end when Walmart sends you for a physical and their doctor refuses to certify you because you are 5' 4" 295 pounds with likely untreated sleep apnea. OR go to a doctor now and prove you are healthy and/or currently being treated for sleep apnea and make this a non issue when sent for a DOT physical. If money is an issue, then get a loan, work a second job, pay for it with a credit card. Not looking out for your health is not a good enough excuse when applying for a top tier job like Walmart, who receives plenty of applications to pick and choose who to hire.

I do not care what doctors have signed off on you previously. There are plenty of doctors who have been known to pass someone who could only fog up a mirror. The change in regulations back in 2014 increased the fines and liability for doctors who medically certify a driver who likely had an underlying health condition. Some of these doctors saw their luck run out in cases where they certified a driver and then the driver was in a major accident as a result of an untreated health condition. The new Medical Examination Report forms used for conducting new DOT physicals was updated in December 2015 to dig even deeper into a drivers current health status and put more of a burden on Certified Medical Examiners to more carefully review who they certify as medically fit for duty.

Be Proactive and have a better path to being hired here, or be Reactive and keep chasing a dream that will always be out of reach until you change your thinking on the process. You are not applying to some carrier with a 200% turnover rate. You are applying to a carrier who only hires a small percentage of applicants. The choice is yours.

Passing a DOT physical alone does not equate to being in good health. Walmart takes this more serious than other carriers. I am speaking from direct experience. Take it serious now, or expect to be disappointed later when your application is rejected.

"With few exceptions, being poor is a mentality. If you want to stop being poor, then take control of your own life and learn self responsibility. Poor people need to stop saying I cannot and start saying I can. Poor people need to stop seeing why things are not possible and start to see why things are possible. Anything is possible and the more you want something, the more you will get it. If you want to be poor, you will be poor. But if you want to be rich, you will be rich. You need to first change your thoughts and understand that the universe is behind you every step of the way. Stop being poor and playing the victim, your rich self is silently speaking to you behind your poor lies telling you that you are a king, because your truly are."

"Some people dream of success, while others wake up and achieve it."

A job such as driving a truck for Walmart will not come looking for you. It must be pursued aggressively.

Without any clinical tests done to confirm the absence of sleep apnea, a letter from any doctor, whether they conduct DOT physicals or not, will be of no value. Being a CME for the FMCSA just means they have paid a fee and underwent a short amount of training to be certified to conduct physicals. It does not mean they are even board certified to diagnose and/or treat many medical conditions. If they believe an underlying medical condition may exist, such as sleep apnea for example, they will send you to a different facility for diagnosis and/or treatment, versus diagnosing you in house at their location.

One of the reasons there has been a huge increase in drivers being referred for sleep studies is a result of much higher fines and added liability being imposed for certifying a driver who may have an untreated medical condition that makes them unfit for duty. These doctors are covering their @ $ $ because they do not know for sure and would rather defer the driver to a different specialist who would absolve them of liability. Passing the buck so to speak.
