    Hey everyone,

Just curious- why do owner operators work for one outfit? I mean you guys are limited to just a handful of dispatchers working to find solid loads for you guys.

Wouldn't it be better if there was some type of website where you can post your truck for the day/ week/ month and have hundreds of dispatchers from NUMEROUS trucking companies looking to hire you on a per load basis? Just curious...I think something like this would put more $$$ in drivers pockets

    Lol...yes I'm aware of these...I'm a broker.

I'm saying that as an Owner OP working for your one outfit, you're limited to loads on the load board and then loads that your own dispatchers can find you. Not all loads simply get thrown up on a load board. In fact most do NOT make it out to the boards...they get booked just by dispatchers calling trusted carriers direct that they've routinely used.

I'm saying wouldn't it be nice for drivers to have access to THESE types of loads that never make it out to the boards (almost always higher paying).

For example- I do a lane 3 x a week we'll call it Chicago to Indianapolis. I call up the same carrier that typically always does these, but maybe 10% of the time they can't handle it because they don't have a driver for that specific day the job needs to get done. I would love it if they would find me a driver (Owner OP) that they trust because I trust them and just do it that way. Instead I have to call around looking for someone that I've never used before, etc.

Quick question...If I have a customer and am leased to say Landstar, how would I go about making sure that I'm able to carry directly for that customer through Landstar? My trucks aren't leased to them yet, I'm just testing waters and wanted to see how it'd work out with me being able to take care of my customers while being leased to Landstar.

What are you talking about? I'm leased to one carrier and haul other non-asset broker's or carrier's brokered freight all the time. Lots of people do this. There is nothing that prevents someone from doing it. And there's really nothing to establishing one's self as a trusted carrier/driver with another carrier or broker.
