I went in to buy one at a Loves. Manager said let be honest with you. We get these back all the time. It works as a tablet so it relies on WiFi. If its dropped all GPS capabilities are lost. She said the same as someone else here. RM isnt.known for its Tablet items and there sounds like alot of bugs need to be worked out.

I went in to purchase this tablet at a Loves. Manager told me they are returned all the time. Basically it works as a tablet needing to stay connected to WiFi. It has a hard time keeping its signal. When and if the WiFi is lost it has no GPS capabilities.

Well, I am glad that Manager at Love's is so highly qualified to make such a statement. They probably don't know anything about the Tablet.

    Which Love's is this?

    1. Wi-Fi is need to access the Internet for such as mail or apps.
    2. The Truck GPS does NOT NOT NOT NOT need Wi-Fi to route you. It uses the GPS receiver build in the tablet to get its signal which is on the back panel.
    3. They have no Clue as to RM and its capabilities.
    4. If it is dropped, then yes it may be BROKE, you drop your phone and the screen cracks you going to make a blatant statement that the phone manufacture does not make good phones???
    5. Manager stays in one location, the manager does not travel all around the US or Canada so how can they make such a statement? It all depends on how well you can receive the Satellite Signal.
    6. The Manager sees units returned, but why are they returned? I have been to many truck stops and 95% of what is returned nothing is wrong with it.

So, this Manager needs to stop with the false statements.

    LGarrison Thanks this.

Loves store in Carlisle PA. Thanks for info. Do you think this tablet is a good product. Other poor reviews on it seem to be more about battery life and it turning on amd off on its own. And there are many with this same statement. I am sure the Loves manager was only passing on info from drivers who wers returning the tablet.

Okay,, you only had a few posts, so I am glad you are not one of those post and go posters.

What Reviews are you reading from?

I have not heard of one just turning off/on on its own.

Battery life - they will last several hours, but if you run the Truck GPS App it will draw power faster, hence connecting to a power source with the supplied power cables.

Well, the manager unless they are part of the RM Support team should not be making unfounded statements based upon another party. It is like he said/she said. It is like asking the minimum wage clerk behind the counter to assist you in making a decision on what truck to buy. They see trucks all day, but are they qualified to even make statements that would affect your buying a product.

I am not sure which trucker blog I found the reviews on. To be honest I was sold on the idea of getting one. After manager said that to me I did google it and found no reviews about what she said to me but reviews on other problems. As with anything that is an upgrade Im sure there are kinks to work out. I was just trying to do my research on it. Everyone had been vague as to this product. I often refer to this site for research on different subject matter involved with trucking. I thank you for your time and responses.

Amazon reviews I take with a grain of salt and truckgpsreviews took Amazon reviews and just reposted them.

I love the one where they give it a 1 star rating because you have to have a Wi-Fi connection to get weather or the internet. - no brainer...

1 star because the screen cracked - nope... I press hard all day long on mine. They dropped it.

Most power issues are from the DC plug slipping out of the DC socket while driving.

These reviews are a few years old with the issues that they are reporting.

2 star because of no manual... -- the manual is over a 100 pages..

3 star because you put in a code to lock the screen and RM could not unlock it over the phone - news,, it needs an OS flash again... but blame it on RM for your locking out your tablet.

I mean come on now. I get you work for rand McNally and stand by your product which is awesome. But a top of the line tablet vs a 80$ amazon tablet is no comparison. The rand McNally tablet has 1 gig ram a 5 year old quad core processor 5 year old display resolution with 16 gig storage running what? Android 4.4?

Get a top of the line tablet with newest snap dragon with 3 gig ram and a nice qhd display or even 1080p with android 6.0 AT LEAST and rand McNally app would run perfect.

The tablet is just a bottom barrel cheap tablet. I had it and it just don't compare to a power house tablet. You can't use that tablet for anything but a gps

Rand McNally should just release the software on the App Store. Everyone with top of line android phone or even mid grade phones can run it. Rand can charge yearly subscription or something along line so they don't loose out on the 400$ price tags for 75$ tablets
