I know.

 

The guys used to rib me about my "Tetris" blocks when I pulled a beam all the time. But when they needed a block the always came a knockin.

 

The guys currently on our 9 and 11 beams have been there for a few years longer than I have so unless something happens I doubt I'll move up anytime soon. I'm only one they can keep on 7/8 beam so even if a 9 or 11 deck opens up I doubt they would consider me

 

I scrounged what looks like a 3"x6" piece roughly 8' long. Looks like oak. How long should I cut the blocks? I was told you don't want too small, but I would think a foot is a good size?

 

I know that feeling, already had to do that a couple times, takes me longer to get all blocks put away where they fit and secured after I unload than it does to actually un chain and unload and stack flip axle

 

Yeah a foot would be good.

I carry 8 1' 4X4's in my goose neck, I use them all the time to block under stuff so the loader with forks or the forklift can get under things. They're handy just make sure they're over a crossmember.

 

I always liked to have blocks that were 24" long. Reason is the block can span 2 cross members, probably not necessary, but makes me feel better.

 

The shorter the block the easier it splits too. Our guys carried steel plate to put on top in certain conditions to protect the wood. Scraper blades mostly o protect the deck.
