How the heck could you not get straps tight enough?

That's a not being prepared problem like a bar that is to long or something. Not a stepdeck problem.

Never seen those before. I have used a set of ratcheting winches on a rental trailer once. Didn't like them. They seemed like they only had half as many catches in them as they needed.

After reading about that though I'm not so sure I like them. Gears wear over time. To prevent wear you would have to put some good grease in there. That grease would get mighty thick at -10 just the same as landing gear.

I prefer to have as few moving parts getting hit by road spray as possible.

There's something to be said for the simplicity of winches as they are now.

With the ratcheting winch bar I keep it oiled and stored in my box where it stays out of the elements.

Im going down to the truckshow in Louisville this weekend. Im hoping to find some of those winches down there and get some info on them.

Im on the fence. Theres some loads i think they might be handy, then other loads not so much.

I wish I wasn't going West this weekend or I'd go down there to meet you.

If you do look at them take some better pictures. I'd be interested in how tight the gaps are. Would maybe be a good idea to try sealing all the edges with some RTV to keep the water and grit out.

Yeah, that sucks. Might be a few guys from here going. Might get to meet up with them.

If i do find them there, im gonna bring up those points you listed earlier.

Plus like you said, i kinda wanna see them in person to see how tight the mechanism is.
