Car Hauling Driver Salaries

    We should all be thankful that car hauling in general is a much better segment of trucking than most to be involved with regardless of the financial reward. After being off work for a large part of 2015, I couldn't wait to get back to it. In fact , Monday afternoon I was talking to another owner op car hauler who said he was ready to get out and he was only late thirties. My response, what else would you do? I enjoy loading cars and seeing the country and listening to the music and taking nice checks to the bank. I can't imagine doing anything else!

    I agree with you and I still love trucking. I am working because I want to work, not have to work. In my 30 years of trucking I have had some very good well paying jobs and one very well paying bad job. I now have a very well paying good job. Most days I work from 7-3 and my pay is only limited(within reason) to my desire to only work 8 hours a day most days. The days I work an extra 2-3 hours I am well compensated. But more important than my compensation is the fact that at 50something years old I love my job, my truck, my daily routine and more importantly I can't be bumped off of my daily "Bid Job" or bumped out of my 389 Pete. If you haven't worked Union you may not appreciate this. My definition of good may not satisfy others on here but D.I.L.L.I.G..A.F.

    $564 today 13.25 ish hours. Loaded and delivered one load, and loaded my second load. Tomorrow will be around $425, but I won't make it back to load. Every day is different. Sometimes I think I should slow down and not work so hard, then I get my check and forget all about it.

    I would add a truck if you would work that hard every day! Lol I bet you are way up the revenue sheet. I think you work with several of my old Cooper co workers.

    I do indeed work with a few you know.

    I would love a truck identical to yours, except maybe not red. I like orange, neon green, or blue.

    I burn some hours. I've contemplated buying a truck, but can't make the jump.
    4 reasons:
    1. I like parking it a day not worrying about tinkering on it when I'm home. My home time is time with my kids.
    2. Benefits
    3. I know I'd work even harder with my own truck.
    4. I'm happy.

    No Traffic. Pad was empty for first load. So nice and quiet. Easy to find a room, easy parking:)

    Second load on around noon and pad was packed.

    When I was younger and stronger I did that stuff for Cotter & Company(True Value Hardware)
    Revco Drugs; It was all down rollers. No way I could that anymore. Car hauling is not physically demanding. Although you do a lot of walking to fetch your cars. Sometimes there's a shuttle. But you do need to know how to load your vehicles and that don't come overnight. It takes lots of practice and you have to enjoy challenges. It's an art knowing what will fit and what won't, keeping within the legal limitations of weight and height without damaging vehicles. Sometimes it's trial and error until you become familiar with what you are loading. Having to unload several vehicles because you loaded something wrong and now it won't fit can be time consuming and frustrating. It's a lot easier asking questions before you load.

    How difficult is it to load or unload safely when your trailer ramps are wet, or it's snowing?
