Heck, even office personnel have to go to Greer. But it's a fun and easy week, so it's not a big deal.
Superior is the best place I've ever worked, and in almost five years I've never once been talked down to or treated disrespectfully. Actually, it seems that drivers are genuinely valued here instead of being treated like a necessary commodity to be tolerated and babysat, as I have experienced at other trucking companies. Dispatch, management, and the shops have always been helpful and accommodating, and I've never been late for a scheduled home time—in fact, I was even once deadheaded from Salt Lake City to Atlanta just to meet a hometime deadline. I've also heard of drivers broken down OTR being flown home at company expense for home time or so they could be put in a loaner truck until theirs was repaired. It's also really nice when I do get home to have the freedom to tell dispatch when I want to go back out instead of having that dictated to me.
Another thing I love about Superior is their maintenance. They take really good care of their equipment, and even though we have some twenty-year-old trailers (which isn't unusual in the chemical tanking world), I rarely find anything wrong on my pre-trips. And I'm notoriously thorough and nitpicky on my inspections.
One notable thing about Superior is that every terminal operates almost as an independent company, and drivers working out of different terminals might have totally experiences. Pasadena, for example—probably our biggest terminal—only has a handful of system drivers. Most of their drivers work mostly locally or just run to Laredo and back with cross-border freight. The Morrow terminal by comparison only has a handful of local drivers; the rest all run system. Company policy is that drivers are to always be dispatched toward home if possible, so it takes work and pro-activity to stay out longer than two weeks if that's what you want. And sometimes you'll still get sent home just because those loads need to be covered.
Of course Superior is still a trucking company, with all the associated hassles and frustrations, and we all get crappy loads from time to time. I'm not getting rich at Superior, but I know from experience I'm not likely to find a significantly better place to work. And for the lucky few drivers who get hired here straight out of school, they pretty much hit the jackpot, getting to cut the line and avoid the dues most of us had to pay at lesser trucking jobs.
Quitting Trimac and heading to Superior.

First day, nothing too exciting. Did a tour, lots of paperwork and completed all the computer training. Two cool things about Superior. One, they don't have hose racks on the trucks, all hoses are kept on the trailer. This is nice because it sucks waiting an hour just to get the wash guys attention. Now, I just drop the tank, hoses and all, nice system. Second, they allow line 5 (off duty driving) for trips to the store, eat, etc. Tickled pink over this one. It just makes so much sense that it hurts. Why don't more companies do this????
One bad thing. No TXtag, no way to get one. I find this incredibly odd. The toll roads save a ton of time around Houston. This sucks but I'll live with it. Have a local load tomorrow. My truck is not here, apparently it's a Mack with a 10 speed so I'm excited about that.Thull, pattyj, Weeble Kneeble and 5 others Thank this. -
The only bad thing about the hoses is when you pick up a preloaded trailer at a customer or terminal and there are none on it. Hose searches can suck and terminals at third party tank washes just put them back on the trailer. Your only option there is to take them off other tanks perpetuating the problem.
