I was curious as to what is the legal number of hours a permitted (CDL Class A) driver can drive per day. I thought I read or heard it was a maximum of five. But not sure if that is accurate. Do any of you know?
Thanks all.

It sounds like I'm way off, but I thought it was 11/14/70 like normal. Otherwise it would take eons to get thru the road portion of your training to test out and get your actual license if you go thru a company thing as opposed to a school.
But that's just what I assumed, I could be wrong.swaggerjacker Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping that's accurate.

I tried Google and couldn't really find anything that said those holding a permit were limited to the hours they can drive in a day beyond the HOS regs for CDL-A holders. That may just mean I'm really stupid when it comes to searching, I don't know.
Basically I'm just basing my view on anyone that would go thru any of the training companies, Wermer, Millis, and the like.
I don't know about Werner but I know with Millis you have to get 15,000 miles with a trainer. I am pretty sure you can test for your actual license before that 15,000 is up but it's not until you're mostly thru it (like 10,000 miles of so from what I've been told). At 5 hours a day in the drivers seat that's 34 days just to get to 10,000 miles, provided you get 60 miles an hour for 5 hours every day of the week. Loading, fueling and the like would cut into that a bunch right off the top, plus rush hour traffic and weather and the like.
Just doesn't sound realistic. -
It is the same as a cdl holder but has to have a cdl holder sitting in the passenger seat, and that is all logged.
Suspect Zero, crb and swaggerjacker Thank this. -
It sounds like you're talking about training after acquiring a CDL to go solo.
-
Thanks so much. I'm glad you dropped in. I'm always confident in your words.
Suspect, you went above and beyond. I really appreciate you.
Thanks to both of you! -
Who me?
There is no training after you get a CDL, that is over with. What they call training isn't training at all and has no bearing on the licensing.
That said, I am talking about a permit holder, it is a training permit, which means that there has to be a CDL holder in the passenger seat when the truck is in motion, he can't be in the sleeper or sitting on the toilet.
OK no problem, sorry if I sound harsh. Hope it helps.swaggerjacker Thanks this. -
I wish people would be more accurate. Although, in this case it doesn't matter. A "permit" holder, as many seem to call a CLP, Commercial Learners Permit, can drive as long as a "permit" holder, which is a person with a full, non-learners license, also known as a permit.
People people people......please use the correct terminology. I'm not talking about the technical stuff, but if you just got your CLP, you know #### well it's a LEARNERS permit. So, describe it as such.swaggerjacker Thanks this. -
Nah, harsh is needed at times. But yeah, the other comment was for Suspect.
Thanks again.
