Are there any drivers that live in central maryland? What kind of home time do you usually get and where do you pull a lot of loads from? I see many trucks at Tamco. Do shingles pay well?

Shingles are an easy load and pay fairly well. Some drivers despise Tamko but I did not mind loading there. If you live in the area you may be able to get on the dedicated fleet there after you spend some time in line haul.
Mostly we only haul shingles from tamko out of Maryland, there are a lot of loads that will take you to maryland though. -
Hey rawlco, what other places around frederick do yall get to? I have seen a few trucks loading vinyl siding down in martinsburg wv. Being here in frederick the 46 of 52 weekends would still be the case?
-
Living in Frederick you will start in the line haul division which is 46 out of 52 weekends at home. Keep in mind that a "weekend" is probably only a day and a half.
If you can eventually transfer to the Tamko Dedicated division you would haul probably 2 loads per day out from Tamko and return empty. You should be able to spend a few nights a week at home as well as a good 48 hour weekend.
The only other things I have hauled out of Maryland is Steel from Baltimore. Tamko usually fills all of our trucks in the area.
My guess for how your week as a line haul driver will go is: A lot of weekend loads from Tamko will take you to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois etc and you will then take something south from there, then probably to the Carolina's for Thursday, then back to Tamko to load on Friday before starting your weekend at home.bonbonsron Thanks this. -
I ran Tamko dedicated out of Frederick for the entire summer when I lived in Bel Air, MD. Great gig! Two loads per day, and head back to preload for the next morning. Usually loads are within 150 miles for the first load, and within 70 miles for the second. Depending on experience, and time with the company, it pays a salary of $925. per week, and you are home most nights.
I was going to be permenant until we had to move to SC. Good luck with this though the waiting list is long, and it takes some real work getting in there.

Hey jmac how lomg does it usually take to get on at tamko? I'm in frederick so its only 15 mins from my house.
-
It all depends, I know there was one guy there that want's to go back on the road but is waiting to sell his house to do such. I had him talked into just going and selling the house through a Realtor. What you need to do is find out if your name is on the list, if not then get with you FM and stress that is where you need to be. Second, and I'll see if I still have this is find out the number of the Tamko FM and start talking with him/her (it has changed recently) and get aboard as a fill in......From there you are just about on.

Kendall, do you have the list that shows the ph# of the FM's?
