I been with Shaffer about 3.5 months. Like them so far. Paid .49cpm. Mileage not to bad, not sure of avg off hand but think least I've gotten was 1500 n that was coming off hometime on a Tuesday. Tho um if ur heavy u will have to do the sleep study. They cover the study n take payroll deduction if u need the cpap.

Have to agree with China here. I always saw his posts recommending tanks and thought I'd give it a try. IT'S AWESOME. Hardly any rude shippers, great pay (seriously pretty much any tank outfit you will make noticeably more than dry van) and more respect. From company and from shippers. I would never go back to door swinging/dock bumping and all the miserable places and people you have to deal with. Only downside is surge but who cares. I love it

What makes the paychecks larger is the accessorial pays and no waiting around for your next load. Usually, you will unload at the chemical plant, then deadhead back to your home terminal. The driver gets paid for all miles, loaded and empty.
Tanker is easy money. There's some serious deadhead miles with hazmat tankers. It is common to haul a load 2000 miles, then 45 minutes to unload, then deadhead 2000 miles back to the home terminal. Did it many times where I worked.
Nashville, TN to Seattle, WA 2400 miles loaded then 2400 miles empty back to Nashville,TN.
It's puzzling why so many complain about small paychecks when there's so many tanker outfits looking for drivers.

It's the hourly pay in tank work. Most places pay either percentage or mileage. The good companies pay hourly for everything else. The layover policy alone at Superior would pay me over 1000 a week if I didn't turn a mile out on the road and pay for a hotel to boot.

Schneider tankers is ok. @Thull works there and says he does ok.
Ohio is a good state for tanker jobs, even for new cdl grads:
    Tidewater Transit
    Superior-Carriers
    SVTN
    CTL Transportation
    Trimac Transportation
    A&R Logistics
    Bulkmatic
    and more

Yes, most tanker drivers get paid for everything. We were paid to pre-trip & post-trip & to fuel the truck, layovers, 34 hr. resets, waits at tank wash, and other things.
I know a guy at A&R Logistics that makes $72K and that's not hazmat stuff they haul; it's plastic pellets.

Continental Carbonic advertises $70K - $90K for tanks hauling liquid dry ice or dry van hauling solid dry ice.

I think most guys stick with van because it's easy and what they know. It's not hard at all to learn tanks. Couple weeks and Ull have all the basics down and like everyone says, paid for everything you do and lots of deadhead. No more sitting around for free. Tank drivers are in demand and companies actually care if you leave, so they pay very well
