Your knowledge is incorrect. Gliders use a VIN for the year they are manufactured. A glider built by Kenworth in model year 2017 is a 2017. Title year has NOTHING whatsoever to do with engine year. You are not getting an exemption unless the glider is a 1999 or older.

I believe that glider trucks have a VIN from the year they are manufactured (the manufacture has no idea what year drive train will get installed when they build them) so if you buy a new glider it will have a VIN from the current year.

Their engines are older rebuilds but the truck is a new truck the year it was made.

It would depend on the year that the engine was made if the FMCSA is exempting them by the year of the engine but I do not see anywhere that they say that, they just say “vehicles manufactured before 2000”.

Confused on the ELD part.. You run paper logs and they are covered by Regs, the ELD simply replaces the Paper RODS. The ELD regs do not control when you drive or shutdown... you control that by the hours you run... so to blame it on ELD regs is simply hogwash... The driver is the one who controls the ability to run when they are legal. If they wish to run only certain hours then the same FMCSA logbook regulations apply and it does not matter if you are on ELD's or Paper RODS..

If a commercial motor vehicle is equipped with a glider kit that is newer than model year 2000, but the connections and motor vehicle components (such as the engine) are older than model year 2000, is the vehicle exempt from the ELD rule?
    PreviousNext

No. ELD use is required for vehicles whose VINs reflects a model year of 2000 or newer. The ELD rule requires a reasonable proxy for this data if the engine control module (ECM) or ECM connectivity does not provide it. If the currently installed engine does not support an ECM to obtain or estimate the required vehicle parameters, then the operator must use an ELD that does not rely on ECM connectivity, provided that the accuracy requirements of the final rule are met. See Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395 section 4.3.1 of the ELD rule for accuracy requirements.

But you can't build truck with out emissions stuff, so how can you register 2017 build truck now with out the emissions on it, it cannot be registered as 2017 build truck, as it's illegal now days, I thought it was registered as the original vin on it says, and even if it is registered as never truck.

You can try all you want, but until you come do what i do, you arent gonna get it.

Also, not everyone needs a babysitter or a gps or Qualcomm to run a truck.

    ONE SIZE DOESNT FIT ALL
You sir, live in unrealistic word. How long you been holding steering wheels?

You seem to have a basic misunderstanding of how gliders work.

Fitzgerald is still in the glider business and will be for a couple more years. A glider built today is registered as a current model year truck.

Then the only option to get all the lexury of newer truck and keep it exampt would be put a new cab on old shasse, that should not change build year
