Starting end of this month at Werner. Haven't driven since I got my CDL back in July 2015 though. Do you think I should pay 450 and take a refresher first? or just give it a shot at Werner? The 450 would be a 4-hour refresher and on a stick shift but part of me thinks that would be a waste of money when I can get the 4-hours once I'm with a trainer I guess. Anyone know what their orientation is like?

Talk with your recruiter, and explain it.They should be able to get info on where you would fall into the requirements.Ask if your testing out in auto,or manual? Good luck, and don't sweat it!
edit... just saw you said manual.Ive tested with plenty of guys that scratch em up,just keep revs low,and short shift until you get the feel againRocknroller4 Thanks this. -
Good luck with them. I quit three weeks into training. Absolutely ridiculous time for my first cdl job. Second company was a bit better (JR Schugel), but that didn't last either. Now at local company and doing nothing but southeast.

i took a refresher last year and came to werner 5 weeks ago. more than likely, you will get a trainer with an automatic. it took a little getting used to for me but it was a piece of pi$$. after a few hours, the trainer new i could drive and just ended up running all day and he would run a few hours at night and after 3 weeks my trainer and i asked to get me off the truck. you shouldnt have any issues if you remember the basics.

You'll get stuck with a trainer.
Don't spend money on the refresher.
You'll likely get an auto - and if driving a 10-speed isn't 'like riding a bike'... then hopefully the trainer will set you straight. Hopefully.Rocknroller4 Thanks this. -
That type seems to get drawn there as equally well as the rookies and nOObs.
Edit: Oh, one last outstanding feature: He had major meth-mouth. Human shark.LumbraX Thanks this. -
Don't go with werner. You will be sorry. Werner is a terrible company. Keep on looking around there are much better out there. Swift is a dream compared to Werner , hell even Knight is better and there a real sweat shop.
Rocknroller4 Thanks this. -
I thought all megas were the same? At this point I am extremely limited with my options. Knight and Swift just merged by the way. I've already spoken with Chinatown and many others on these great companies but there is a contract or they won't take me because of gaps in employment. Most of the better ones want me to sign a contract. So if I decide I no longer want to do it after six months.. I get hit with a bill. Tired of owing money to other people. Not interested in flatbed. Only dedicated or regional.
I don't see how anyone can say Werner are terrible? More terrible than Western or CR England?Last edited: Apr 15, 2017

What state are you in? It might help to fill out apps on some of these drivers hire sites, and let a head hunter give you some options for your area.
Give PTL truck lines a call? I sure as hell wouldn't sign no contracts. If its a reputable outfit, they don't need
to trap you to keep you.Just my 2 cents.
I would look into ltl places too.Money is pretty good and they usually hire, and train from within,Rocknroller4 Thanks this.
