i got an hp all in one printer when i got my vista lappy and the printer wont work right for some reason with my vista os. the printer says it works with vista!! i now have it hooked up to a xp desktop and it works just fine.

any vista with less than 4gb of ram is just a paperweight, nothing more:biggrin_25510:

Just ordered a DELL 1525 for work. This laptop comes with Vista in it. My other 3 computers are XP. Should be interesting.

Vista tries to accomodate you automatically. However, the tweaks can speed your system up, IE no lag when you click on something...like it's having to think about it.

My sister and I have almost identical PC's. Mine smokes hers. The only differance, I have 4 gig of ram to her 2 gig. Both have been tweaked.

My PC generally idles at 32% usage of RAM.

I've noticed Vista is very stingy about sharing the HD and memory with other products. I defrag twice a week on average, and remove/copy all critical files weekly.

I run a deep cycle disc clean up, at least twice a month. It's a bit of overkill. But I play on a lot of web sites I shouldn't ;) Plus it's just habit now.

Oh boy...are you gonna be pissed then. Not sure what All in One you have. If it's the same as my sisters, there are NO drivers for it.

It will work in Vista. You have to use the MicroSoft default drivers. And do much of your work (scanning) through Paint and windows FAX. There was a section on printing..but I was so pissed by then...I told her to move it back to the desktop, with win2000

I usually replace my laptop every year, this year I got a small Dell (1420). I was surprised to see that Dell still actually sends you a backup disk instead of you having to burn it first thing like HP does.

    A few things I don't like...
-My power plug fits loosely into the computer & sometimes falls out.
-It takes two hands to reach both hotkeys ("Function" on the left & arrow buttons on the right) to turn down the screen brightness so to see it at night.
    -Combination of 1 & 2..
When the power plug falls out, the screen brightness max's out so if I'm driving I can't turn it back down because of the two hand thing.
    - It came with camera but not Blutooth, I had to buy a USB Bluetooth.

Ive had two HP laptops and both came pre-loaded with Vista, and me personally i despise this, i loved my old computer with XP, IE is always crashing, Vista doesnt allow programs to run properly, and to add to this HP decided that they would install only 2gb RAM to run 64 bit Vista, when in fact you need 4GB min. to run it properly. Wish i could return to XP, it was so much more efficient and allowed much more to be done with my computer. I sometimes dont even try to do something in fear it will crash-------hmmmmmm........wish Microsoft would listen to people

The sad part what Microshaft doesn't tell you. XP has or will do all of these ten things listed.
So why make a new OS? Microshaft is based heavily on promoting or advertising itself. Doesn't mean it is any better then the old O/S or it has been given any severe make over in security. The security part has been proven wrong. They already have a service pack1 out and numerous updates for vista.

So what did Microshaft really accomplish? They sold the public another O/S again and are sitting on a mountain of money in Redmond.

This is there biggest down fall.

I work for a very large company, one of the top 10 in the world. They are running Win2K and have no plans of updating anytime soon.

My wife works for Mack Truck and they just upgraded to Win2K in the last year.

Vista is so full of problems MS is looking to put forward the next OS 4th Quarter of 2009.

Well, they are going to have to update before long, since MS will be ceasing support of Win2K in the next year, I believe.

The content is from my blog. Last time I posted a link here I was told not to. I'm new here, just playing it safe. . .

Don't count on it, Mack was still running win95 until the upgrade to win2K. Most large companies have a private support system with MS and have very well trained IT staff to run older OS's.
