  1. Yep that's the plan, stay out of the northeast, anywhere else is fair game. Gonna try to get my base around Phoenix, but that depends on the money. I know the midwest is a good area for work but i been here most of my life, and I need a change.

    Phoenix can be tough. Make sure you get a really good rate going in because outbound freight rates usually aren't very good.

    Yes Sir, that's what I understood. whether a guy lives there or he is just emptying out there he should make sure he gets a decent rate going in, or home because outbound loads typically don't pay all that very good.

  6. Hey everyone, hope ur all doin well and makin that money. I got another question. I'm still loolkin for a trailer and tryin to hammer out my options. Like I said before, I'm just starting out and any and all info is greatly appreciated. So I just bought a ram 5500 it's got an 11ft flatbed and the truck is 24ft bumper to bumper. I want a 40ft trailer. So my first question is am I gonna run into problems in some states for being over 63ft? Thought I saw something about texas. Next question, is it worth getting a trailer with air ride? Seems if a customer is gonna want air ride, then they probably want an enclosed trailer too. So I'm thinking instead of the air ride I'll spend the money on 15k axles and pay the government their 12percent tax, as much as I hate sayin that. What would y'all do and what's ur favorite brand of trailer? Thanks in advance. Stay safe.

    Get a PJ 40' with 12k dexter axles. Air ride isn't necessary. Keep it simple as all those options they offer add up to extra weight and cash you. Maybe consider the monster ramps if you plan on hauling automobiles a lot. I have used my slideout ramps only twice.
     
  8. So I take it that the 15k axles aren't worth it either? Are the monster ramps necessary? I was just gonna get the slide outs.

    I think you may have a over length problem pulling a GN with 40' of deck space? The rule is 65' max with a truck trailer combination. With a flatbed, or any type of truck bed you will be classified as a truck trailer combination. With no bed, just a fifthwheel, fenders, and maybe a sleeper you would be classified as a tractor trailer combination and can go over 65' legally.

    Measure from the center of your drive axle (approx where your fifthwheel, or gooseneck ball will be) to the furthest point forward on your truck. Deduct that measurement from 65' and that's how long your trailer can be from end to end.

    Is this cab n chassis truck a regular cab, or a crew cab?
     
  11. It's a cab n chassis, 4door. Where can I get a book of rules that I can read? I'm not a lawyer so I don't understand lawyer jargon that is in the fmc handbook. Is there something in layman's terms?
