I thought I posted something about this at 5 am.

    Why the FET replacement?

Higher output level and much greater Fidelity for starters.
Even though it goes from 50 hertz to 16000 Hertz I'll only be using 300 hertz on up to whatever the radio decides to use.
The High Frequency response is phenomenal with that element.
One nice thing about that case is that I could put it under your steer Tire and you could drive over it without crushing the case. I can't think of another microphone that would take that type of abuse and still survive.

It looks like with 5 volts in it requires 10000 ohms of attenuation and with 1.5 volts in it requires no attenuation.
It looks like that particular electret was a very good choice for 1.5 volts.

Tested it out today and it seems to be pushing right up against the amc circuit as planned, without any attenuation.

    Ougigoug Thanks this.

@ $69.00 for parts, including a secondhand donor microphone plus 3 hours labor, it would be difficult to turn a profit but good stuff doesn't come cheap.

@rabbiporkchop that is your best sounding gate I've seen. That mic sounds great.

    Ougigoug and rabbiporkchop Thank this.

Not to yank your chain but where is the fet?

ALSO you know how to calculate attenuation in an audio circuit?

Thanks for the correction. Maybe electret would have been more accurate.
Without test equipment it would be hard to measure output level in order to have numbers to punch into the equation.

Just tested this morning. Tight race.

    Dirtymartini15x and Ougigoug Thank this.
