    My wife is the bread winner and I'm fine with that. It's about household income and not who makes more at my house. We run our house like it's a business.
    I like to think of myself as a safe conscientous driver. Don't speed or take unnecessary risks. Only hadone speeding tixketin the 21 years I've been driving. I know it's different in a rigbut I'm hoping that will translate to this career.

    Wargames and wfutch79 Thank this.

    Know the feeling. Takes me a little over 2 hrs to mow my 2.5 acres because of all the #### trees.

    I absolutely hate doing mine because of the hill and the swimming pool that hasn't been opened in years.

    @wfutch79 @Ben Wah 79

    Don't listen to that Yahoo that's trying to bring you down. This is industry has been great to me and my family (I'm the same as age as you two, born in '79).

    I've been in the industry since '09. I started as total noob by going to a driving school in Murfreesboro TN, then went on to drive for a mega for 2.5 years (they have the big black trucks) and I did very well there. I then went to a smaller OTR company based here in TN and did VERY well there for the next 4 years. Next, I did a local gig for 1.5 years, running from Chattanooga to Johnson City and back 5 nights per week.

    Now, I work in operations for a small start up trucking company here in TN. I am a fleet manager/freight broker. If you are smart, hard working, and dedicated, the possibility are endless in this industry.

    Thanks 8th. My grandmother worked in Johnson City at the dialysis clinic for decades.

    I did not let that old timer get to me. When I put my mind to something I follow through with it. Like I said in one my previous posts we all have to start somewhere and the pay will suck but with experience and a clean record the pay will increase.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

    OLD TIMER HERE. Had no intensions on getting to you. Just advise. You will see somewhere down the road. wait till you have to get home and they say NO, we will work our way to your home. You have no idea what will happen in this industry. Just make sure you don't mess up. Or you`ll be on here saying " Who will hire me?". This OLD TIMER wishes you the best of luck. By the way, NOT OLD TIMER, Crusty Ol Driver, Ha, Ha, Ha.

    Thanks for the advice and sharing your wisdom "Crusty Ol Driver" :biggrin_2559:, it is much appreciated. I understand what I am getting myself in to. Also I have discussed everything with my family and they are all on board as well. We will make it work.

    Well i hope it all works out well for you driving OTR does have its rewards if you love the open roads and being away from home that's the way to go, however if you can't bare to be away from family and friends for more than 2 days then regional/day driving would be more appropriate.
