Yes...thats my POINT. Intermodal work sucks. There isnt an intermodal company im aware of, as driver you can earn squat...very hard as O/O too.

Who wants to do Intermodal work? It blows. Stand in line...hurry up and wait!

I know MANY guys making 6 figures and are doing nothing out of the ordinary, dry van or linehaul work as a COMPANY driver, full benefits, company match 401k or retirement pensions, and are home every day, don't have a tenth of the BS to put up with intermodal drivers do.

Well if you are crazy enough to do long loads using paperlogs yes. .. example Newark,NJ to buffalo-Akron area in ny I know a guy that has loads daily there, it's almost 700 miles but he pays his driver's 600 per trip do that trip daily for 40 weeks 5 times a week and you will gross 120k after uncle Sam takes his share you will be looking in the mid 70k take home

That is a ton of miles every day...long days...but, not bad pay.

Some of the guys I know at FedEx are driving darn close to that, daily...there doing it legal, been on e-logs for a while, so, I think there going about 635, maybe 650 mi a day making about that $. Sucks in bad weather. They run linehaul, hook a set of doubles, meet same guy everyday, switch sets and bring them back. We call them professional steering-wheel holders! but again, pay me that, give me a comfy truck and not a lot of bs, I'll run it 5 days a week too!

That's better than netting $1,400-$2,200 wk as an O/O...

I would sell my truck before I ever did that load for that kind of pay.

82,000 is the heaviest I've hauled
Most of the time anywhere between 70,000 and 80,000. Occasionally you get a light load

Whew...still, at the end of the year, doesn't leave you a lot of "bones". Of course, everyone is different...for some, making $50-$60K is HUGE money...for me, if your going to risk being in business for yourself, take a chance a customer might go bankrupt so, you might not get paid, well, it needs to pay off a hell of a lot more than what I can make working for someone else. And, as I have stated here, drivers I know with relatively the same experience as me make 6 figures + driving a company truck. Not all do...I get it...but, to each there own.

Hi John! Yes, what Rucki was talking about was a company driver making that kind of dough. Not bad, BUT...it's east coast too! I don't know how gnarly that drive is out of NJ every day...but, 700 miles a day 5 days a week is a LONG, hard week.

    ChicagoJohn Thanks this.
