It's been a long time since I've driven for Swift, 6 years ago. Has the hometime changed from 12 on/2 off, 18/3, etc.? I heard something that they go by hours out now. How does that work exactly?
Just asking for another potential driver, my brother actually. He's interested in Swift. TIA!

As far as I know it's 1 day off for every 7 days out.

Honestly it depends on you your DM and terminal. My closet neighbor is out, 24 to 30 days and takes 5 to 6 days off. He is a company driver. But he lives 350 miles away from terminal. So that helps.

I really believe it is 6 days out and 1 off, as in 1 day per week.

What Luse says is true in respect to how many days in a row that you can actually take off, mainly due to terminal rules.
A few years ago I heard that Phoenix doesn't allow more than two days off unless you turn in your truck, then be reassigned a truck when you get back. Most don't like drivers taking more than 3 days off because it means the truck is sitting too long and not making money.

That last excuse doesn't fly with me.
If we are given 1 day per week, and take 1 day per week every week, the truck is down 52 days of the year.
If we stay out 60 days and take 10 days of home time, the truck is down for the exact same amount of time.
If we stayed out 316 days straight then took 52 days off, it would still be down the same amount of time during the year.
It should not matter to anyone because the truck is making money the same amount of days during the year, no matter how it is split up - sort of.

But here is the real kicker.
The longer we stay out between home times the less planning it takes to get us home.
    Swift saves money.
The longer we stay out the fewer short days the truck has, so it actually makes more miles and money when the driver stays out longer.
    Swift makes even more money.

I guess the bean counters are too ignorant of real economics to actually realize that.

[/QUOTE] Congratulations ... You just discovered the secret to successful leasing. Don't need to minimize the amount of your home time. Just the number of times you go home.

So why can't the boobs at Swift see the same thing?
    Or, perhaps they do.

It is just another way to screw drivers out of what they are due.

When I was a company driver my DM had no problem with me being out 5 weeks with 5 days off. He even let me stay at home for 2 1/2 weeks one time with my company truck to take care of my sleep study and to get my cpap. I offered to turn in the truck but he told me to hold on to it. I guess it depends what terminal and dm's you have.

That is one reason there are such conflicting reports about Swift among the drivers.
No consistency. Some people are treated very well and others are dumped on, and it all depends on the DM and terminal rules.

I understand your thinking... however that is not how the big Megas are structured... they are not one big corporation.. but a cluster of corporations... for stop loss..

So, say you and I decide to start a large truck company and follow the structure of the Megas...

You would buy the trucks and trailers, but never employ or hire any drivers.

I would start a company that has drivers, but not trucks or trailers..

The drivers I employ for my corporation would only drive your trucks. Most my drivers would see your name on the truck and consider themselves as your driver.. even though your name will never be on any of their pay checks...

Now if your company does not want any of its trucks sitting longer than a week... then a driver of mine would have to relinquish the truck and get another one if he wants to be at home for 10 days in a row..

That is a very simplistic explanation of the structure.. but, you get the picture... The large truck companies don't have deep pockets.. they sew the deep pockets into many many smaller pockets.
