Believe me, I lived every minute of that ordeal on the phone with him. In fact, he kept me on the phone while the receiver told him to sign the bills stating he takes full responsibility for the load. I'm screaming into the phone telling him not to sign that paper, then screaming to let me talk to the dude.

I grew up in the family produce business in Hunts Point as a kid then a young adult, I knew exactly what was going on. Wegmans refused the load because of questionable temps, that I get. But the real problem is now the shipper and packing house wants to hold the trucking company responsible because they shipped hot product. These reefer units are not designed to cool product down to a certain temp like the coolers are in California, they're designed to hold a temperature of the product that's put on the trailer. If the bills say 33-36 degrees and the product is put on at 40 degrees, guess what? Hot product at the other end that's rotting from the inside out.

But to keep the customer happy, and not loose the account, Abilene will be eating most of it.

So, after far too short a time with my honey in our new hangout, I have a run west. 2 drops in Las Vegas and 2 in CA. Stopping at the J on the 70 in KY for the night. Didn't get a whole lot of rest the past couple days. I'll be looking forward to my next HT for sure.

Nice run. I've actually been out west far more here lately than ever. It's a nice change of pace, but won't be doing any in the near future due to my mother. We've had a few bumps in the road since her initial surgery, including catching pneumonia, but Monday she is scheduled to finally get the external fixator off. After 8 weeks of being bedridden, I'm hoping that she will be able to put a little weight on it. It requires outpatient surgery at the same hospital that we detest, but at least it's outpatient unless something unforeseen happens. The rehab center finally figured out that just because I wasn't there didn't mean that I didn't know what was going on. And after many heated calls up the food chain, they figured they better do right.

I was actually on my way to CA when I spoke with my mother and then called the rehab because she just didn't sound right. You'd think that since the nurse is the one to give meds every day they would've noticed how sick she was getting. So when it was time for me to go home, I was pretty adamant about getting there, which for some reason wasn't in Abilenes plan this time around, even though my hours only allowed for time to get back to Richmond. I used my considerable willpower to make sure it happened though. Don't think they were too happy with me, but don't care. When I came back out, I got a load to northeast TX, and apparently that was too far, according to my FM, who called me and dressed me down a bit Monday. So, for the foreseeable future, I will be close to home. Not sure how close yet. I will find out some info Monday or Tuesday and will have to adjust again for a while once she can finally go home in probably another 3 weeks. We knew this was a long recovery, but wowsers!

Produce consignees are notorious liars and always on the lookout for some inexperienced produce hauler driver to shaft. This is why many carriers now have satellite temperature monitoring of the trailer because consignees try to get a big discount on the produce after it arrives at the delivery point by saying the temp flucutuated too hot or too cold in route.
Grocery warehouses will get a big discount on the produce, then submit the original BOL showing the full price to corporate. The difference in the price the corrupt warehouse managers pocket for themselves. One way they do this is to reject the load, then a phoney company they set up buys the rejected load cheap then resells it back to the warehouse for full price.

Reefers in general just seem to have bottom of the barrel players associated with it. It's no wonder brokers of reefer loads are the most paranoid I have encountered.

I've been to that wegmans in Rochester and the one in Pottsville PA. I dread going to either because they are so ##### slow to unload. I like the store but the way they run the dc's is just retarded.

If it means my job I'll never deliver there again. If I were starving for a month and they were the last source of food on Earth, I'd gladly die.
