The logic is simple, it's so people like me can have a place to park. :)

Got to the Petro in Sturtevant late one night this week. Trucks parked stupid, trucks parked on the road. Sure enough though, there were still a couple of those 'blind sides' left for me to choose from.

I find my Peterbilt is a pain to back up on either side, drivers side you have to hang out the door to see around th exhaust, it is almost easier to blind side with a Motomirror

This is supposing that coming in the other way is possible. If it is, then your answer is the most logical.
To me, that makes absolutely no sense at all, unless they are pull-throughs. While I will grant that there are times that nosing in makes sense, these times are pretty rare. At least in my experience.
I'm thinking that this is most likely the answer, at least in most cases.
Just like the architect that designs any type of dock to be offside access. Unless they are working around some existing objects that leave them no choice. However, if it is new construction, rather than a retro, then there is little excuse other than the lack of knowledge.

Are some of these nose in spots leftover from failed Idle Air or similar companies that closed at the location?

I'm not buying into the theory that these folks don't know what they are doing, they know full well what they are doing. There has to be circumstances that dictated these unfortunate circumstances that us dumb drivers have no knowledge of. They are in the truckstop business and have already spent a million bucks just deciding if a particular location will be profitable at least a year before they start acquiring land. To think otherwise is just uninformed and uneducated.

Whatever. I've been around enough to know the stupidity of design errors. Most of it comes from people who are highly educated, but under experienced in life. And just because someone drives a truck, doesn't mean they are morons.

Petro has had this layout as long as I've been out here. There are however some others that left the stripping like that from Idle Air.

OK Don, that was a poor choice of words. You are right, these companies that do the environmental impact studies, comply with thousands of regulations, invest millions of dollars into the site, hire some fresh out of school dude to design their investment are the morons.....

Rocks and Big Don Thank this.
