OK this is getting on my nerves. Placard on my passenger side keeping getting out of the holder and flying away on the freeway. Already used the 3 replacements the shipper gave me and 2 of the ones I bought at a truck stop. The holder has a clip that is supposed to keep it in place but it's not working.
How can I keep the buggers in place so I don't risk a ticket?

Duct tape along the open edge of the holder is a common practice.ExOTR, Lepton1, Diesel Dave and 2 others Thank this.

Clear tape. I'm never without it. In the absence of tape, you can try using some small pebbles or rubber pieces underneath the placard holder to help keep the placards in place.

they sell sturdy clear plastic inserts made just for this, We get them from work, But the little rock trick will also work, But the DOT looks down on this

The sticker ones suck in holders. If you can't get the heavy paper kind, do a strip of tape over the open edge so it's on both the placard and the holder, or stick it onto cardboard you cut to the right size. Those are hard to get in and out, though. Tape is best.

I use clear tape on all 4 sides. If it's winter or if there's a chance of rain, I'll wrap them in serranwrap then tape them.

Clear tape or sticky back placards. If your in an area that is prone to rain, I definitely recommend the sticky back ones, cause they are sticky as can be. You may spend 10 or 15 minutes ( each ) peeling them off, some come off in little pieces, but you won't get the citation of improper placard either.
At least that's how I used to do it. -
I made the mistake of putting one of those in a holder once. It didn't stay. The ones designed to stick on never do.Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

I almost got a ticket in Tennessee at the coop for having some fragments of an old red stick-on placard, so if ya put on a sticky make sure you get all of it off.

A little heat from your blow torch and the plastic sticky ones peel right off in one piece.fargonaz and homeskillet Thank this.
