Best job I ever had and got to travel a lot and had a great time.. was as a traveling roadie... I started off doing it over the summers when I was in college.. it was the best way to spend summer.. getting paid good money to go set up and tear down for concerts and shows... Loved it.. we would travel from venue to venue, had time to go splash in the ocean or sight seeing.. got to see a lot of great act for free.. Elton John, Def Leopard, BB King, Buddy Guy, Reba McEntire, Aerosmith, The Police, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, I got to set up and see so many great bands and got paid to do it..
Got to set up and see Cats and Phantom of the Opera.. that was pretty cool...
After college I did it for two more years year round.. then decided it was time to grow up and settle down...
Which now when I look back, was kind of crazy thought.. because there were roadies way older than me... it's just the job was so different and fun that it didn't feel like a grown up career... I had money in the bank and came back to the Midwest and bought my first house...
My point is there are a lot of jobs where you get to travel... Trucking is only one of many options for you...
Is there anyone who'll hire me with three accidents on my record that are a year old?

I actually have applied at railroads in my area (Norfolk Southern, Amtrak, NJ Transit and SEPTA), but I never got a callback. It was something I was considering, though.

What are some other jobs you can get with a trucking company besides a truck driver? Also, is there a way to avoid renewing your DOT Physical if you're not driving. It's kind of too expensive. I don't really want to spend over $100.00 if I ain't gettin' me a job anyway. It seams like a waste of money...

As for other jobs with a trucking company.. there are several, administrative office jobs, working in the shop as a parts person, entry level tech, wash bay, trailer maintenance, security guards...
Go to a job site like indeed and enter some truck companies near your.. you will see all the jobs open.pattyj Thanks this. -

Driving a truck isn't rocket science. There's no single thing about the job the average person couldn't learn to do. Yet many fail. Why is that? Lots of reasons but in most cases it comes down to one thing I believe. Pressure. Failure to properly recognize and/or deal with pressure.
You passed your test for your cdl. You know how to drive the truck. You know how to back it up. Sure, you're not great at it but you know how to do it. Leave you alone with all the time in the world to put that trailer where you want it and you'd get it done safely.
Add in the pressure of time, of some two bit store manager, traffic, pedestrians and whatever else and you know what can happen. I've seen some of those family dollar and other places they send you guys, almost anyone would feel some pressure in those situations. Why they throw the new guys to the wolves with those is something I don't understand.
However, if it's not that it will be something else. Many driving careers are over before they really get started because people get into a pressure situation and screw up. And then they take that small screw up, like a missed turn or wrong turn and turn it into a bigger screw up.
A missed turn won't end a career yet many manage to take that missed turn and turn it into something worse. Taking too long to back into a dock won't end a career, property damage on the other hand...
You had a rough start. You already have those strikes against you. Someone will hire you but if it goes bad like the first time you're done.
Learn to recognize and deal with pressure.

I heard somewhere you can add statements to your DAC Report to tell your side of the story. How exactly do you do that?

Well, I tried USA Truck, Western Express and US Xpress, but they all said, "no."
