I actually already purchased a 2013 freightliner Cascadia so that part is done it is paid in full. I have my DOT and MC numbers they're just not active because I haven't gotten my insurance yet. My first quote was for $43,000/yr which I laughed at and then I received one for $34k/yr which I almost took but I recently got a quote at $19k/yr that I'm going to go with. That's 1 million/ 250k cargo and physical damage. Reason I got quotes for $250k cargo is because I was going to buy a car hauler but now I'm leaning more towards buying a dry van I'm just not sure which way to go that is why I was trying to find out how much loads usually pay because I want to be profitable. I will have a driver driving my truck and he wants to make decent money so it's just a lot more difficult than I thought trying to find out how much I can make weekly and I don't want to have my guy quit his job just yet until I know I'm able to pay him more than what he's making right now.

43k? Good God. My first year rate is 8200, that's 1M/100k, 2014 truck and trailer.

$8,200??? Where are you from? My first quote was $43k 1M/250k just the 2013 truck lol. For like a week I was like OH my GOD what have I gotten myself into lol. But I filled out an application online so that agents can call me with quotes and that's when I received the quote for $19k which compared to all the other quotes I've gotten wasn't too bad. And I have a clean driving record, completely spotless but I've only had my CDL 2 years and I'm 28 yrs old.

I found a good A+ company in my home state of Iowa (Great West) I have 4 years experience, and I'm a bit older. Spotless credit too. I'm sure it's all a factor.

So how do you do it? If you don't mind me asking. Do you just haul for that one company? What's pay like? I know it's a bit different out there than hauling here pay wise but I'm just curious. How do you get in with just one company? Do you think I should just go with a broker at first?

I would say learn the market go to work as trucking dispatch/Manager then u will have an idea whats going on in the market first. To get truck an MC is easy but to know the market takes a few years.

    Jsalas3010 Thanks this.

I was talking about the insurance company. I haven't started hauling under my numbers yet. I'm going to work with brokers initially, then try to find some local outbound stuff.
