First chance to use the new fuel card. It was 2.39 at the pump and with discount it was 2.09 in MO.

I may get back on the road after 5 years off.
I may get my own authority also.
Still trying to decide.SheepDog Thanks this. -
I have the NASTC fleet one fuel card. NASTC has their own fuel network called QPN and it is cost plus a few cents. It's a really good deal.Dave_in_AZ, fargonaz, TallJoe and 4 others Thank this. -
Got my next load setup and all was good until now. This trailer has brand new recaps, the tire didn't blow but the tread came off all in one piece. What a way to start off. When I get back in town I'm getting these off and putting virgins on it. I can't afford to let this happen again. I hate to be one of those guys that says I'll never run recaps but, I'll never run recaps again.

Recaps are as good as virgins BUT the only recaps you can trust to be that good are caps on casings that you yourself maintained from the day they were brand new virgin tires. Now if you're one of these guys that never saw a curb you could miss with your tires and just generally really abusive on them then your casings aren't going to be any good and no recaps are really not for you.
You have to take care of tires in order to not have issues. Never run unknown recaps, that's risky. Recapping your own if they've been properly maintained is a great way to save big bucks.
Another money saving tip. If your trailer doesn't already have a tire carrier underneath it get one and put it under there or have it done. And get yourself a good used spare trailer tire to carry in it. One with about half the tread life left in it.
I like to carry one that's already mounted on a wheel but even just having a loose one is good. You can thank me later when you go to a T/A to have a nail patched and they tell you it's too close to the sidewall so it has to be replaced, we have these used tires for $350 or new ones for $550.
Then you tell them that's OK just break it down and install your spare. That'll cost about $40. Then go to your trusted tire shop and let them patch the nail hole or do it yourself. Tires are expensive and super-expensive from these truck stops. And they will tell you that nail is too close to the sidewall every time so they can rip you off for $350-$500.....
I need to take my own advice and install a tire carrier under my current dry van. My old one had one and it saved me money a couple of times.taodnt, SheepDog, JimmyWells and 8 others Thank this. -

I'm over it now. My first run and I barely made it. I really don't want to spend money on tires when these are brand new. I don't like to spend money unless I need to.
Ended well though. Got my oil sample report in from Blackstone and 40k miles on the new CK4 Delo oil and it was clean. They put on the comments that it was "exceptionally" clean for the miles on it.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I don't blame you. I would run what you have just keep the pressures right and look them over good every day. But definitely look into carrying a spare. I'm telling you that will save you down the road from some rip off artist trying to sell you an overpriced used or new tire that you don't really need.

My first full week out I had 2 tire issues , one flat that was repairable and a blow out on my way to Denver . Oh what fun!
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
