Hello, I was wondering how someone would get into car hauling? I have been interested in doing this for awhile. I was also wondering what are some good companies to haul cars for? Is there any special training needed other than having a CDL A? Thanks for any information in advance.

My hubby is a car hauler and works for probably the best company out there, as some of my posts have stated.
The main office is in Okemos MI, but they hire pretty much anywhere east of the Mississippi.
He was sent to their port in Greer SC for training, they teach you there how to load the cars, how to inspect them prior to loading etc. He was there 3 days (not the normal 5) and took out his first load.
The trainers in Greer are awesome, the hotel they put you up in is very nice, room plus kitchen, they provide company van to go into town and get supplies or eat out, and nobody has a bad attitude. I was amazed at the quality of people down there and at the home office too. Training in Greer is paid and I think its 75.00 per day (dont quote me on that) the training/paperwork time in Okemos is also paid at 50.00 a day the last time I knew and that is for 3 days for physical etc. The hotel there is nice as well, pool, weight room, plenty of restaurants all within walking distance, company van again provided, and VERY nice people.
Hubby averages 3 deliveries a week all over the east coast (very little time in NYC, been there twice in 19 months) and they go as far as CO...thats a good run hubby has had it 3 times and loves it.
The company is Precision Motor Transport, if you want/need more info just PM me.dannyboy Thanks this. -
Precision Motor Transport? Couldn't find a listing for Premier.

I noticed on their site they require at least 1 year of otr in the last 3 years. Do you know off hand how many miles they consider otr? Guess I will file this one away for next year.
-
when hubby hired in they simply asked for verifable otr experience, not miles he hadnt done technical otr according to some companies he looked at since he did mostly chicago runs occasionaly from MI but BMT gave him credit and hired him.

Thanks luvmyhubby for the info. The company sounds really good. I'm going to put them at the top of my list for companies to try to get in to. I will have to train and get the 1 year of otr from a company that hires newbies, before I try to get in with them. I just got my CDL A after having a CDL B for awhile. The 1 year is not that long to wait, especially to get into a good company. Plus that year will give me the much needed time to fine tune driving the trucks. Thanks again.

Something else about hauling cars. It pays BIG bucks. It may be the bet paying type of trucking out there.

this is what i want to hear about,,,, i spoke to a driver a couple weeks ago who quoted me $600 per for the cars he carries,,,,,, Is this real or someone blowing smoke?? -
Well the destination charge on the window sticker is usually about $600 around here. I doubt the driver gets all of that.
