So its memorial day weekend.
Everyone else goes home and:
Spent yesterday sitting, 150 miles for today, 150 miles for Monday.
Are there segments of this industry where its worthwhile to work on the holidays, or do most of you stay home?
Getting stuck on the Holidays.

If it wasn't for my kids birthday, I'd be out and running. Or atleast trying. My dispatcher made it sound like everyone wanted to be home. I've worked enough holidays that it doesn't bother me except for Christmas.
wore out and otherhalftw Thank this. -
Any holiday weekend is something you try and work toward where you want to be for the weekend. Otherwise, the "holiday" day is really a travel day....since in this industry...transportation...we all "work".
wore out, Diesel Dave and 201 Thank this. -
Hi Slargtarg, sounds like someone has "trucker's remorse". Get used to it. While I was driving, trucking came 1st, or guess what, no hot dogs on Memorial Day. ( even if I wasn't there) Didn't help my marriage/family situation. In this business, you make a commitment, and it takes it's toll. One thing for sure, you aren't alone, especially here. Just remember, when everybody is going back to jobs they hate on Tuesday, you can roll down the window, and enjoy Spring. You'll be fine. That's truckin'!
Florida Playboy, jethro712, wore out and 2 others Thank this. -
Badmon, motocross25, gentleroger and 5 others Thank this.

Trying to explore the car hauler world more201 Thanks this. -
Or find a segment of the industry that actually approved of you spending holiday with friends and family.
I'm a steel hauler by trade and choice. I run regional, work hard for a better than decent paycheck, and go home on weekends. Plus I get holidays off. Steel mills don't work weekends or holidays, and neither do I.mangdriver and AModelCat Thank this. -
I run with a step deck and I run where ever and when ever.
Delivered Saturday morning, I ran 1000 miles empty to be home. Actually going to back track 200 miles to get next load on Tuesday.
I have spent a few holidays in truck stops. First one I remember was a Christmas.
Was on my way to Denver and I had two trailer tires go down. Stopped in Hays, Kansas, Christmas eve.
Was going to be with family in Denver that night. Too far to bobtail and return and deliver day after Christmas,
There I sat with roller grill hot dogs and old coffee for my holiday, not even a truck stop. Just a gas station quick stop.
Some times it works out and some times it doesn't.
When the pay is right, now that my kids are young adults, I'm running.
Good luck. -
gentleroger, bottomdumpin, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this.
