Same for the paper logs... How do you show the prior time you use it as a personal vehicle? If you log line 1 then you could do the same... go off duty, and when you come back on duty and are ready to roll, then simple fill in the logs for the time you are gone as line 1. Be sure the time you are using it for a personal vehicle you are logged out of the ELD.

You log off duty/not driving and simply not log into the ELD... since you are also basically the "Admin", you go onto the web portal and show the time as you Off duty/not driving.

I did pose this question back to the "Fleet Side" (ELD) at Rand.

But you bring up a very valid point.

I agree, as far as the logging part, thats simple, i just go in and mark everything on line 1.
My issue is the Mileage and GPS that goes along with the ELD that i don't what when im using my truck as a "personal" vehicle and shouldn't have to. When i was talking with Support today i did ask about the ELD 50 as far as being to unplug it and they said yes it can be unplugged and then later just plug it back in when i need to and it won't mess up . Now that is what they said..................... would like to know in practice if it works.

I would just leave it plugged in and not log it. Then the mileage would be shown as "unaccounted" mileage and you simply deny that the mileage is charged to you. Like getting a new truck from another driver in a fleet.

I am working directly with the Product Manager in your situation.

This is what i would do also. But he is worried about the gps tracking. Big brother and all that. Me? I got a cell phone and its almost always on, so I'm already being tracked so not worried about 1 more tracking device.

Your idea wont work for me though. its my truck, im the owner and the driver. so i can't just dispute the mileage is mine sine the truck is mine. kind of hard to do that.

It's not disputed mileage, just unassigned.

i understand that, but wouldn't i get the same sideways look for unassigned mileage since its my truck?
and its leaves a history of where the truck has been, and since im the only driver, it won't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together.
bottom line is i don't want the tracking at all. just a big blank from A to B. can't question what there isn't any info of....... I realize this may sound petty, but i am one that simply does not like the idea of Big brother following me around or anyone knowing my personal business or any way to figure it out. Personal is Personal, period.

If its got commercial registration personal is never personal. Yes you can pull your rv or toy trailer from a to b, but for pc to apply you have to return to a after your vacation. ues there will be a record of it, but all ya gotta do is make a notation saying you used the truck for personal reasons while off duty. You really are making this into a much bigger deal than it is.

YEs I am. and i have my reasons . like a lot of Owner Ops, I simply Do not want Big Brother or anyone else for that matter knowing where i went, when i went or any kind of tracking on me when i am on Personal time.
There is enough "watching" going on when i work, when i am OFF, i don't want any one watching me, no history, nothing. Besides i have seen to many times where history and tacking can be sued against you.
I come back form 2 weeks off running around and 2 days into work something happens. We all know the lawyers for the other side are going to pull everything they can get their hands on, and ill be darn if im going to give them another way of tracking down my movements and timetable just so they can use it to tear me apart.
Sorry, thats the way i am. Yes i chose this career and everything that goes with it, but ill be darned if i am going to let it intrude on my personal life as well. Hell might as well put a camera in my house next to see what i do on the weekends when Im Off Duty..........It start with one thing, but never stops.....................

Well then your best option is to buy a vehicle dedicated to personal use and register it as such.
