They sell them because people buy them. Kinda like switchblades and brass knuckles. You can still buy them in many states. You're just not supposed to possess them in most.

I didn't think of using but I should buy one and put it on as soon I can. It does make turning easy if you have something in your hand and trying to drive. Is there like a certain size to put on your steering wheel?

The only law is an OSHA law that prevents their use in construction equipment. Washington State does have a statue that says (paraphrasing) "that no steering wheel attachment can be used that may catch clothing or prevent the safe operation of a motor vehicle." It goes on to say that it may result in a violation.
The problem is that it is one of those statues that are so far into the grey area of law that the interpretation is different for every law enforcement officer.
One may simply caution you on its use, one may tell you to remove it, one may write you a ticket.
The Washington statue is not specific, so the officer may have deemed it unsafe based on the clothing you were wearing. -
I just use the palm of my hand no knob needed, but these are the reasons I dont have political paraphernalia of any sort on any vehicle I drive... they will make stuff up if they want to and since blue states dont really believe in rights you will be SOL
