Wow thank you guys BIG TIME! Even my company is rusty on the information of it...they just own the tanker and want me to move it from the terminal down to the mix plant....you guys possibly have saved me from a huge mess because I would've never guessed about the moisture building up. I mean I know regardless New or not it'll get moisture inside but I never knew it could be something deadly. I heard about water being inside hoses and causing issues but that's it.

Never skimp on boots. Steel toe all the way.

That tanker sitting two years worry me. Drain that water and clean it.

Make sure the word "HOT" is clearly visible where possible. It's HOT. If you are up there on the catwalk fooling with the hatches... it's HOT.

    Hydrate. Hydrate and hydrate.

When I got trained the driver did have steeltoe but a good sturdy boot.I said I thought we needed steeltoe he says that's what the policy is but Linda the boss didn't care as long as toes were covered. So I ask her and sure enough she didn't enforce it.I asked because ai couldn't find a woman's pair of steel toe but I did see a beautiful pair of regular woman's work boots she was fine with that. They not only looked dam good on me but they were so comfortable. They're costly but worth it.

Only have to wear it while loading it, at Shelly. Not at receiver, tho.

A spray bottle of diesel fuel will be your friend, as another poster said. *gotta keep it on the down low, tho.....* (we all do it, but it's don't see, don't tell.)

Even when it's NOT "hot" per se, it still can burn ya pretty good.

Probably should do a little reading about H 2S. ......... it's in asphalt just a matter of how much.

Some places make you wear a meter.. Most do not... But stand upwind and l wear a respirator while loading only.....

    IMG_0473.JPG

Guess witch filter has 50 loads on it.... The heavy solids thrown into the air while loading 300F liquid can't be good for you.......also this set up is good for H 2S up to 1000ppm (I think). But I wouldn't trust it.....

Liquid Asphalt is a good gig, however when things go bad they go bad in a hurry. Pay attention!

Because I load and unload in "open" areas, Hydrogen Sulfide is "supposedly" not big risk factor, if any at all..... You topload also, correct?!? My main loading hub is Toledo, and the breezes from the Maumee River seem to keep it negligible.

This is actually interesting tho, man. I'm already looking further into this. Thanks.

    Yup, top loading ...

The only time I've set a meter off is after pulling pipe out of trailer and bending down to close and latch the dome cover......

But it's in the product, no one wants to admit it tho......

H2S can be a danger in the asphalt workplace | Asphalt magazine

I'm starting to look into it, actually. You've piqued my interest. I've done the "dome" thing a time or 100, as I usually "eyeball" it.... just because force of habit. #####.
