No worries bud. I appreciate any and all advice. I've only been in business 2 1/2 years and I didn't grow up around trucks like some I know. This board is very helpful to me. I'm still acquiring certain tools I need a little at a time. And as new issues arise I'm learning how to deal with them.

The thing you've got to remember is that once it is off, it'll be wedged into the tool...and you'll have to drive it out with a punch or chisel. I prefer an open tool, so that my options aren't limited to what might fit through a small opening to reach the broken inner nut I need to knock out of my tool.

Another tool that company carries that is pretty slick (especially if you do your own tire work even on the road) is the Nut Buddy or EZ Buster...52:1 gear reduction to break even the most stubborn lug nuts loose. On my tractor, my 40" breaker bar is usually enough to get the stud-piloted nuts I installed off. On hub-piloted company trailers, though, you just never know if they properly torqued the nuts or if they beat them on with a 1" gun. Both tools are identical...I had ordered the Nut Buddy, but they were back-ordered at the time (I guess their supplier was saving them for an upcoming truck show) so they asked if I wanted the EZ Buster instead. No problem...just get it to me. Been riding with it in the truck ever since...I hate being stuck somewhere completely helpless with an issue that simply shouldn't be a problem with the right tools.

Have you used it yet? Normally i just put a pipe on the end of my breaker bar, but even then sometimes i gotta heat them up if i had a truckstop mount them last.

I absolutely agree. What do you torque your lugs to? I use a 1" 285b Ingersoll Rand gun on setting 2. Not sure exactly how much torque that is but I haven't had an issue with lugs loosening. Tire shops I've been to do definitely hammer on them with the highest setting. I always request they put the gun on lower setting in the past. Now I do my own tire work especially with adding a 2nd truck I want to keep costs down wherever I can.

Hub piloted are supposed to be 450 to 500. I always do 475 and have never had one come loose. I picked that number cause my skiiny ### can comfortably get all 10 without putting a cheater bar on my torque wrench, which afaik is a good way to ruin a torque wrench.

I run them up with my 1" (but don't sit there beating on 'em). Then, I finish tightening with my breaker bar. Me = 225# x 40" breaker bar = roughly 700 ft lbs IF I hang on it. I don't hang on it, but make sure they're good & snug. I shoot for 500# or so...just 'cuz it sounds good.

My 1" gun is rated to 2000 ft lbs @ 90 psi, but my compressor pushes up to 155 psi...and every regulator I've tried simply won't flow enough cfm to run even my 3/4" gun. I've had lugs (pre-EZ Buster) that I had to take the truck into my local tire shop and have them break 'em loose and re-torque just so I could go home and swap the tires around like I wanted to...#### tire shop on the road REALLY had them tight.
