I guess the DOT enforcement blitz is in swing. Pulled over on the side of the road by a WA State inspector in a pick up truck this morning.
Simple process. He asked for:
License
Registration
Annual DOT inspection card
BOL
Logs
I showed him my BigRoad logging software on my tablet. He asked, "is that an ELD system?"..."no sir, it isn't."..."okay, open it up and let me see last 7 days"...
He was pretty up on it. Went back to his truck for a bit, came back and wanted to check the 5th & 7th of this month.
My response was to confirm I've been running in WA a lot the past several days. I knew what he was doing, he was matching up scale crossing.
He didn't have nuttin' on me thoughHanded me my violation free inspection report, said "good job!" and I rolled on.
One thing you don't mess with in WA & OR is your scale crossings, you do and you get pulled in for an inspection, they go right to the honey hole.

If it makes you feel better, BD, I spent my evening watching a fellow trainee try twisting the frame out from under a Pete 579 at the schoolhouse. Apparently this kid (only 23) has never even looked at a manual, much less driven one.
And our load securement gave us a very important lesson on why not to blow your air horns at bull moose in the road.Oxbow, passingthru69, Al. Roper and 1 other person Thank this. -
Airborne Thanks this.

Apparently, he ran into his buddy and the guy's back is all bandaged up, and asks what happened.
"B#### slapped by a moose."
Coming out of Canada with a trainee, he warned the kid if you see a moose on the highway, don't blow your air horn. Trainee see's moose, blows air horn. Moose turns and charges the truck (moving at full tilt). Truck comes to a hault, trainee jumps out and runs, gets picked up by the po po 2 1/2 miles back up the road, still running. Mean while, the trainer is trapped in the cab with a dying bull moose that keeps beating the guy with its antlers.
Turns out, it was the rut. And when bull moose hear the air horn, they react like they are being challenged by another bull moose.Airborne, Big Don, Highway Sailor and 1 other person Thank this. -

Based off stories of friends who'd been stationed in Fort Wainwright and JBER in Anchorage, and this link ( ), it is highly plausible...
