What gives the state of New York her right to require you to pay them extra for a sticker to go on your grill? No other state demands that so I'm wondering why does New York have special authority to do so. If they don't then why don't the other 48 states require the same thing just get more money out of drivers?

I think they stopped charging for stickers, cause OOIDA took them to court

I just walked through a huge Petro and 90% of the trucks have that sticker on the front and my company just issued me one a couple months ago to stick on mine. Are you all saying we don't have to do that anymore?

You have to stick the sticker: you/someone have/had to file quarterly on behalf of that account based on usage of NY non thruway roads; or file no usage of you have no ny running. You no longer pay upfront to have that sticker (used to be $19 per sticker).

See you have to fill out special paperwork for the state of New York documenting your use of non-Thruway roads? Do other states require this? I thought this stuff is taken care of through IFTA.

Separate from ifta. You can fill it out online. You have to file quarterly/have your carrier file quarterly. If you have no mileage to report you have to file as such. Failure to file 2 consecutive quarters will suspend your NYS HUT account.

I've heard other states require something similar (New Mexico & Kentucky?) but most don't have the same type of setup. Otoh some states have tolls and others don't: it's all about collecting money.

New Mexico and Kentucky are similar to NY HUT.

THE WHOLE thing is a massive scam by these States subverting the purpose of IFTA !!
