This thread is extremely informative but leaves me strangely uncomfortable. It's amazing what a communist government will do with the fruits of others labor. With all the human rights and abject poverty issues it's just hard to feel warm and fuzzy about their shiny infrastructure. Not trying to be a downer just strikes a nerve for some reason. Interesting though.

We sent military power into the Boxer Rebellion I think right around 1895? roughly? ANYhow... not too long after certain persons I think Mao? he wrote a small book that detailed what he thought is right for people to do and millions ended up starving when they did not comply with that book into the 50's

The 40's was a really important time in China, Formosa which we know as taipei taiwan today is actually a part of China in a roundabout way but that story is way beyond the scope of this thread. You are fixing to open a large page in history and settle down to read about it.

China was a mess when London was a swamp and America a bug fart in the wind laughed off as fantasy writings of those in the 1560's when they started to theorize on the modern man in france and other places.

I'll stop. My head hurts. There is a freaking encyclopedia about 5 inches thick in one corner. And that they call a brief treatise on world history. We are not finished with that yet.

    Mao's Little Red Book
During the Vietnam War while on R&R in Hong Kong, bought a copy for $1.00 USD. It's a smaller than a pack of cigarettes and almost as thick. The book disappeared during a divorce.

This thread reminds me of the "Butterfly Effect" and in this case how some incident in the past eventually leads to high speed rail that connects the world.
The small breeze from the wings of a butterfly led to WWI. Strange history lesson.

Yea. Especially when you consider the losses in war, it's incalculable. But if you rescued certain persons you end up with the knowledge to go to the moon.

I used to grumble 300 million Americans in this fine Nation and I end up with THIS Boss or THIS dispatcher lol.
