ok i am ADHD i stopped taking my ritalin so i could pass the dot physical/drug test. the form askedme to list medications i'm currently on as i stopped taking them i put none as i'm not currently on them. plus i do plan to stop taking ritaline in a month when i start trucking school then at that time ill have my regular doctor put me on a non stemulant ADHD med. but today i call for a refill and my doctors like you need to come in for a med change i'm like"? what". now i'm worried that my doctor and dot physcian shared info and they might take my 2 year dot phisical form away from me. can they share info without my permission? i'm on disability for my adhd and this is my chance to become self sufficiant and kick ssi/ssdi/foodstamps to the curb but i'm scared as hell because this is a huge step for me and i'm also afraid i screwed up not listing my ritalin. what should i do and should i be scared? i'm freaking out right now please help.

If you are on Disability and you get into Trucking OTR etc you will have to stop the disability because you literally are working now. A productive member of our Nation.

Your SSDI will be cut down two dollars per dollar. You will see your checks become smaller until zero based on your new trucking income which could be in the thousands of dollars each month. SSI for me is not paid because my SSDI is too high. (Cutoff for SSI is 780)

    There is however...

A 9 month program offered by SS, where you go to work as a trucker for a temporary time. You can make whatever you make and it wont impact your benefits. HOWEVER.... should you remain working, those benefits are going to stop because you are now a worker. A productive member of society. You WILL be reevaluated for everything on the 9th month. If you stop trucking and go home because it's too hard due to your limitations, then you have lost nothing and actually gained some respect for trying.

The foodstamps as you know for a single person is only 16 dollars a month. Many states have just passed laws making you a worker for a minimum hours each week to keep those food stamps. If you have children, then those food stamps will be talking some REAL money each month for each of them.

ALL drugs dispensed is reported to your states real time prescription monitoring. Literally every single pill prescribed to you in your life time is reported. Also all Doctors who prescribe themselves have a DEA license to prescribe medicines. THEY are also reported and careful records are kept by the States. Which is WHY SOME doctors refuse to prescribe certain drugs like narcotics and others like ritlian and so on.

ANY doctor can put in your SS Number and run a check on your medicine history through the state and understand in a few moments what you have been taking and when. SOMETIMES a addict or abuser is identified and is entered in what is called a Data List within that program meaning should you go to a ER or any doctor asking for a particular medicine, you will be arrested. But 99% of the people picking up normal medicines for normal everyday stuff don't worry about that stuff.

Finally we get into white lies.

If you are NOT on a medicine and that stuff is NOT in your system anymore (If I stopped one of my pain pills it's out of me in 6 to 30 hours via pee test but withdrawls with valid medically detectable symptoms persist for 3 to 7 days. Any competant doctor examining you will detect signs of withdrawl and then ask you questions.

Generally DOT exams you say NO to everything. Dare the doctor to detect that bad heart valve or something as I have done for years myself. Provided the doctor did not find anything and the employer drug or hair test did not uncover anything plus a background check which may include your medicine prescribed history etc might or might not uncover issues. If I was a employer I would have my company doctor check those records.

There is alot that goes on medically on many levels behind your back as a patient. Most of the time, it's not a concern. For example if you went to your doctor for nausea from that bad meal you consumed in a restrurant few hours ago, the doctor will make a note specifically to talk to the State's Food Board to examine that eating place for food poisoning. If in fact you are suffering that, then bigger guns are brought in and expanded to hunt everyone who has had a meal there that day.

Regarding your disability status. Im pretty certain, if you are healthy enough to drive a big truck without problems you are healthy enough to stop the disability. Either that or... it will be stopped for you with a additional headache of having to repay past benefits paid to you.

I hope this helps. Im also a medically retired person, I have too many degenerative issues that will worsen over time and two will kill me before too long. That's ok. No worries. Death has no fears for me with the exception of Judgement.

Anyhow. There is it is. Consider your situation carefully.

Finally I leave you with the last thought. When and IF you become a Trucker, certain medicines automatically disqualify you for the time it's in your system or for the time it's deemed medically necessary to give you these medicines. You will not be allowed back into a Big truck without seeing at least one doctor who specializes in the situation that put you there.

my disability is mental not physical. i literally drive my friends, family and past coworkers nuts. i talk way to much about random #### all the time i'm a regular jabbermouth which causes issues in a work environment and cost me many jobs back in the day. some of it stems from feeling socially awkward all the time. i'm just a downright weird guy. being in a truck by myself sounds like the perfect job for me not a soul to drive nuts but me and the truckers on the cb but they can change the channel if i annoy them. only issue will be the first 4 weeks driving with a instructor. may god have mercy on his soul.

    We call those motor mouths.

Now... I understand your position mentally. Believe me I do. I understand.

With that said and the clarity before us, I say this.

You will learn not to exhibit signs of mental defects. (It's a old term, not in common or PC use today they call it something else entirely... bear with me) while in a big truck. Should that trainer detect and understand that you are a mental defective in some way you will absolutely be brought in to be carefully interviewed by safety and people trained in deciding if you are or are not safe to be running around with a 18 wheeler.

Today's society is hyper obsessively demanding safe truckers for a vareity of reasons. Now that is not to say that we all are safe, there is a little crazy in me which I think goes along with the territory. I can open that crazy bag and pull out some of the useful tools inside of it now and then.

Maybe you have enough of a mental defect (There is that word again... bear with me, it means somethng broken or not quite working right, remember Im talking this over with you not giving you a hard time.) that trucking and any work should not be for you.

There are several different types of truckers. Some are motormouths. For you I think the company can find a trainer who is also a motor mouth and you two will yak it up inside that cab 24/7 yak yak yak.

There are also the strong silent types. You will do the taling for both of you until he or she (He he he,...) finally goes postal and tosses you....

And everything in between. There are all sorts of people in trucking, and Ive found it to be both a joy and a scourge at times.

It's very hard to get disability for a reason, if you are deemed no longer a worker for reasons of your particular condition, then there is a good reason to believe that it will not work out for you to be trucking.

If you are stubborn and need to try it to give it a go, then use the SS's 9 month program for those exploring going back to work.

hahaha good idea i'll ask for a motormouth instructor that should work just fine for me. regretfully getting off disability is harder then getting on it because your starting with nothing and nobody wants someone with no work history.
