what should I do?

    I'm out of hours on a freeway on ramp. I'm 45 miles from my companies distribution center. My boss tells me to move the truck to the nearest hotel but I will get an hours of service violation if I do. Should I move it?

    Yes move the truck to the nearest safe spot. Don't sit on the side of a ramp and create a hazard because of a dang log book

    Move it.

    It happens sometimes even to the best of us. Even the best planning gets screwed up with unforeseen things, especially if you're routinely in the habit of playing your clock tight like some of us do and it happens during the last hour.

    If it's your first violation no big deal. Just don't make a habit of it or let it happen due to poor planning. Then it's a problem.

    Yes you should use whatever technology and apps you have to find a place and move elsewhere. Then when you're resting, you should review your day and see if there's anything you could have done differently today with your time management that would have helped your situation.

    But sometimes the job and the HOS rules are going to present you with a difficult situation, even if everything goes optimally

    Log it as Personal Conveyance or just log it as normal. It's not likely the D.O.T would even check your log in the next week. If your log Dept says anything that really nothing more then a talking to. Parking on a ramp will be a ticket if the cops notice you in most states I believe..

    I would log it as Personal Conveyance because the ELD won't flag it as violation. Then it just up to someone in the log Dept to notices it. I wouldn't worry about the D.O.T odd are very low you would get stopped and looked at in the next week.

    I suppose you're right. But, we have one who doesn't know how to slide tandems and this guy is totally affriad his truck will explode if he drives 11.5 hrs. And yet, big companies don't see a need for training standards!

    Move the truck, an hos violation isn't the end of the world. And so long as you take your 10 after, you'll not get a ticket. The violation only happens if you are caught during, or you don't take enough time off after
