Laws aside, I think that 4 direct tie downs are much safer than two indirect. Just make sure that the articulation lock is installed like Rontonio said.

You are mis understanding what I'm suggesting. I'm suggesting basically doubling up all four tiedowns.

Check the wll on your binders. Most of the 5/16-3/8 binders I have seem are rated at 5400 pounds. 4 direct tie downs at 5400 pounds is only good for 21,600 worth of cargo.

Those are Lebus binders, they're rated at 8800 pound just like 3/8 grade 10 chain.

Your good on weight, here's my opinion and that's exactly what it is opinion doesn't make me right and some else wrong. I'm not a fan of cross chaining in particular long spans like that, it serves to keep the load on the trailer in a sideways event but does nothing in a roll over because there's very little if any down pull and provides little rearward control. One option would be kinda like was stated earlier, instead of hooking the chain back into itself on the machine pass through the tiedown hole and drop to a stake pocket. You could go to the next one up that would give you forward, down and cross pressure plus he added advantage of indirect rating of the securement. Like Ron said put in the articulation lock out.

The articulation pin is in. I get what you're telling me to do I'll play with it in daylight.
The keen driver loading next to me said it's better if you crosschain equipment. But I see what you're saying. You could add another chain on the front going to a stake pocket to get more down pressure, too. I'll try your way in the morning.

Even with a D16 the keen driver said his Volvo was not meant for heavy haul. Said 110-120K max was what it would pull.
