Sounds to me he was using the trlr brake trolly handle rather than engine brakes.... OMG it's no wonder why we have so many truck accidents on the highways today. #### new breeds get out here trying to be super truckeres, and don't even know how to operate the equipment before they get on the road with it.
Reminds me of a driver one time out in Texas of some foreign decent hell from checafreakvilledoelphia or some place . Locks up in front of me for some reason smoke From the tires laying rubber all over the place he pulls of the shoulder of the road I pull off with him to see if he was ok. He says "I don't know what happened the brakes just locked up" he says I'm trying to get it to move now it won't go.
I get up in the truck he had the hand brake pulled down. I said come here showed it to him, he said I didn't even know what it was for I never used it before. Then said I must have hit it with my hand by accident......
And instead of the government insisting on putting new drivers through extended intense training programs instead of pushing more regs down our throats, they allow these mega carriers to push these inexperienced drivers out here on the road faster then water through a hose -
Just last night a B train a ways ahead of me on a long straight stretch puts on his 4 ways and stops right in the middle of the NB lane (single lane north and south) I drive past and the guy is checking something on the truck. WTF he had 8 feet of shoulder he could have stopped on. Idiots everywhere.

Can I ask what an engine brake is? And a few more questions?
#1 in the winter months if I don't want to replace the air dryer can I use a hair dryer to save money?
#2 if I hit the power button on the radio and it doesn't come on can I buy a mosquito?
#3 my truck act's funny and makes a lot of noise when it's in autopilot and I'm trying to sleep is that normal?

I can drop off Eisenhower and Vail @ 79,000 in my automatic Mack using the engine brake and have it hold me to a max of 45 mph, barely using the foot brake. Sounds like you started off too fast, and the engine brake was having a hard time keeping up, requiring more foot brake than needed.

But on the off chance that you're actually a driver there's something that you need to do.
Call your office, call them immediately, and tell them that you've decided that you just don't have what it takes to be a truck driver and you're going to give up the wonderful world of trucking.
Tell them the same things you've told us. Every word, especially your excuses for your actions. They'll understand. I know I'd understand if I was your dispatcher, DM, or safety guy.
Find a good place to park the truck and grab a bus or a plane home. Just don't drive anymore, okay? Please?
The rest of us will thank you. Repeatedly.Grubby, driverdriver, flood and 2 others Thank this. -
