So if I was teaming with my significant other, and they split miles and not pay per mile it still works out to basically what I drive is what I am payed for? She is paid for what she drives so how exactly do team drivers get more pay.

At least with husband and wife teams, both incomes (pretty decent ones) stay in the same household.

The trick is finding a company with lots of team freight. Sitting at Loves pays zilch solo or team.WesternPlains and Jazz1 Thank this. -
So the only factor in teams, if your with your significant other makes more money.. The pay is still halved some way.. Seems like the only ones really making the cash is the freight company itself.

The difference is the truck on most days is rolling 22 hours a day, only stopping for fuel, switching out drivers, etc and an occasional pit stop. Covering 1300 team miles pays better than running half as many solo. I made almost $75K a year for 2 years running team, have never made anywhere near that as a solo, maybe 55-60. And I was home every week, just as much as being a solo plus teams usually run the good loads out west with plenty of open-road miles that solos take too long to cover.

You also have two log books to run, two clocks. That really opens up your potential, in addition to getting those longer runs that require teams.
One or the other will always pretty much be able to run, unless you have been running awfully hard. Even then, you go to recaps. You will have run very hard, indeed, if you both completely run out of hours, and will prob want a break. Even then, you will not have to sit a full 34, as one of you will have been off coming in & already will have a headstart on a 34.
You can really work it by having one double back on shifts, if you get stuck for awhile, so the other can reset hours. Then, look for next opportunity to do same for the other. Did this all the time when running team in the past. We never ran out of hours, very rarely had to go to recaps, and ran the bejezzus outta the trucks.
You will not have to stop for 10hrs everyday. Can pretty much run that sucker 24/7/365, if you so desire.

A properly run team does not really ever have to stop, but for outside factors. So, properly run......will always be able to make more. (Unless the company sucks, or you don't run).
Cover a heck of a lot more miles/loads much quicker, because the truck does NOT have to stop.
= much more miles, or revenue....depending on which you are dealing with.
Yes, you both split what comes to the truck......but, you can cover so much more, and get better runs.... now that you are not confined within the limitations you have as a solo.Last edited: Jun 23, 2017

If you are running 8-on/8-off, the truck will be rolling 24 hours a day. A single solo driver only rolls 11 hours a day. You do the math.
